DIMAKILING, CAROLINE D.

BSMA-3

The Covid- 19 pandemic is truly a life changing event in our lives. Some may think
that students are less affected by this pandemic than their adult counterparts. The fact is that
we students are greatly impacted as school routines have drastically changed from face to
face into purely online classes. Interactions with friends and peers are very much limited and
sometimes even prohibited. My family, especially my mother, loves watching Kdramas not
only as a source of entertainment but also comfort during this time of pandemic.
One particular Kdrama masterpiece which I liked and considered as a work of Art is
“Reply 1988”. Its theme revolves around love for the family, friendship and youth and a bit
of love story. The families in the drama are very much like the families in the Philippines
where the father us the one working while the mother takes care of the chores at home. This
was the main reason why it caught my attention because of the many similarities with the
Filipino culture which can be found in the said drama. The drama was artistically done
through the use of the 80’s fashion and events which gave me a glimpse of past. The superb
acting of actors and actresses made it even more entertaining and heart-warming especially
the father and daughter and the mother and son scenes in the drama. The drama clearly
portrayed the same level of importance among the fathers and mothers in the families.
This drama is truly an inspiration for me because it made me realize the importance of
a family’s love and the value from these trying times. It also gave me so much hope because
this drama consisted of families who are from the poor sector of the society. Being poor did
not stop them from pursuing their dreams through education. Overall, this The Reply 1988
drama not only provided me with wholesome entertainment but also many life lessons which
has lessened the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on me. It made me forget about the
situation and reminded me that my family and friends are always there to help. In this drama,
the parents and the children had equal exposure in terms of their stories and struggles in life.
This makes the drama well balanced; it tackled all the aspects of a family regardless of age
and economic status. This drama series is an indication that relationships are more substantial
than money for us to survive and be happy. Worth mentioning is the beautiful soundtrack of
the drama series which I listen to even if I had finished watching it.
