AN OBSERVATION GUIDE FOR THE CLASSROOM VISIT
Name of the School Observed: Agusan Del Sur National High School
School Address: 5 Pan-Philippine Hwy, Barangay 5, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur
Date of Visit: Sept 27, 2021

The community where Agusan Del Sur National High School San Francisco
resides is in urbanized community and is alongside the street which is very accessible
for public transportation for learners, faculty members and visitors. The front phase of
the campus where the school’s name is attached in a bright color. As I was about to
enter the, I notice their school motto that reads “OUR BEST ALWAYS”. The gates are
also separated from two— the entrance and exit. Passing through the entrance I
already notice the campus one and the science laboratory. All of the campus buildings
are still usable and well-constructed for a huge population of learners. The school
ground is spacious and very environmentally friendly since various trees, bushes are
present giving a fresh ambiance for all learners and visitors. The second part of my
observation is the classroom for SPED which leave me a great impression since not
schools in the Philippines have this kind of classroom that is present with other regular
classrooms. School grounds also have benches that can be use by everyone during
their leisure time, a friendly setting for learners so that they can have their personal
space inside the school premises.
A national school like Agusan Del Sur have different buildings for every grade
level from Grade7 to Senior High School department, this means that they have a wide
range of enrollees every year to accommodate. They also have their school canteen
that is also wide to cater students and is located near grade 7 and 8 classrooms. I just
hope that all grade levels have their own break time to avoid being crowded. As I
continue to walk, Agusan Del Sur National High School have a second campus and an
open ground which have a basketball court, a way also to grade 10 classrooms. There
is also a building for school publication office, SPS office and Barkada Kontra Droga
(BKD) office in the first floor.
The school have separated buildings for Senior High School Department.
Technical Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) and General Academic Strand (GAS) are
near to each other. A laboratory for Cookery and Bread and Pastry Production is also
present which have tools and equipment o be used by the learners to develop their
skills in this field. This laboratory is well-organized and cleanliness inside is applied at
all times. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics have separated building.
Aside from these facilities, the campus has their own covered court, a function hall, the
ASTECCO and others. All of these facilities are in good condition for learners to provide
a quality education.
It is a great opportunity to visit the Agusan Del Sur National that very
accommodating and eco-friendly learning environment. I can say that this campus and
the mentioned facilities are conducive for learning and development of the learners.

OBSERVATION REPORT
Name of the School Observed: Pusok National High School
Location of the School: Pajo-Matumbo-Pusok Road, Lapu-Lapu City, 6015 Cebu
Date of Visit: Sept. 27, 2021

The Grade 8-A classroom of Pusok National High School a typical high school
classroom set-up in the Philippines is in the hands of Ma’am Annabeth Gucio. This room
is located beside the campus stage. One teacher’s table is located in the front, a small
space is enough for the teacher to bring his or her learning materials and other things that
are needed for the class. Behind the teacher’s table are the two blackboard and a small
LED TV monitor at the top center of the wall. The wall was painted in beige color. Beside
the door, there is a fire extinguisher for safety purposes. Different wall display was posted
in every corner of the classroom, these are the following: classroom officers, class
attendance board, teacher’s program or classroom schedule, DEPED’s mission and
visions located at the upper left and right corner of the classroom, the images of
government officials is also displayed at the top of the board, homeroom PTA officers was
also displayed at the right side of the blackboard.
A comfort room is located at the right side of the classroom, clean but needed to
have a repair. Good values reminder wall is displayed at the side door of the comfort room
alongside the window. Four trash cabinets are painted in bright colors, and labeled as
leaves, glass, papers and plastics. However, the trash cabinets for glass need a repair
for its hinges. A bookshelf is also present at the corner alongside the windows. At the
back, there is a small table where a small water dispenser is located. Students’ output
boards for all subjects are located at the back and have a minimal design. There are also
two Word wall in two language subjects which are updated every quarter, each is located
the back corner of the room facing each other.
The room is in the standard size. This is room is enough for hold 51 learners. Their
desk occupied the center of the classroom and is distributed in three groups, unevenly
divided. However, the classroom is still spacious and clean. Proper lighting is installed,
ventilation is good also, fans are installed at the ceiling so that the air is circulating well
inside the classroom.
MY ANALYSIS

1. How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the learning
of the students going to school? What are your conclusions?
Well coordinated school campus with complete facilities and classroom
arrangement with other resources needed to support learning environment will still have
an impact in the learner’s learning and development capacity. This boost the interest of
learners in learning and it would be comfortable for them to go to school. It will also give
them the courage to learn, developing curiosity.
Several factors can affect learning ability, including seating, light, noise, and even color,
so that having a positive learning environment encourage student to attend classes.

2. How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development.
How does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?
In our previous lesson of child and adolescent development and facilitating
learning, I learned that every learner’s way of learning is different from others. They have
their own pace and style this includes their capability in learning environment. A child
needs a conducive learning environment to make them productive in learning. Teenagers
is at their crucial emotional, psychological stage where they gain their lifelong experience
and deep impression to develop socially, personally and to the community. Learning
environment is the place where teaching and learning can take place in the most effective
and productive manner. A physical that is clean, well-ventilated, spacious and has good
lighting is conducive environment to learn.
As a future teacher, I must learn on how to make the classroom a conducive to for
all types of learners to learn. I must learn to reconstruct every time to be applicable in my
students learning process.
MY REFLECTION/ INSIGHTS
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why?
Why not?
It would be a great opportunity to teach in a school environment like what I
observed because they have a positive learning environment and it my decision to help
students making some changes in their perspective in life. However, Agusan Del Sur
National School is far from my community that give me a second thought.
2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?
The physical attributes of the positive learning are that the school is clean and
green promoting the importance of environment, well-organized and free from pollution
and noise. It is also important to recognized the completeness of facilities, of offices,
laboratories and every classroom is well-organized.
The learning environment does not end inside the four-corned classroom alone. It
also extends outside, so the school campus which is conducive for learning is the one
that offers learning in best possible way. This means the environment encourages
democracy, growth both socially and intellectually, can also teach the basic social norms
and social responsibility. An institution that promotes and instills to the students the
importance the quality education and moral values.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?


A classroom is considered to be conducive to learning if it is clean, spacious,
properly lighted and well ventilated. Also, completeness and proper organization of
necessary facilities, equipment and learning materials is helpful in maximizing the
learning process of the students. It is also considered conducive that the classroom
encourages learning with other learners to develop their social capabilities.
A kind of classroom that is quiet and non-threatening atmosphere so that students
feel that they are respected and their ideas are open and accepted.
4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?
These words that must be put by heart. I will give my best to remind myself the
things that I learned for the past years, the things that I observed ideas that I collect. I will
make sure that my classroom is clean, properly lighted and well ventilated. But for now, I
can only observation and think of what would be the most classroom set up and
management that is considered as conducive one.
5. Write your additional learning and insights
The teacher must know how on how to set the right atmosphere inside the
classroom that threatening atmosphere will only give students the pressure to learn and
not to learn freely on their own. The learning environment is very crucial factor that can
affect the learning and development of the students. Additionally, educators must bear
in their minds and hearts that learning of the students is the cent er and reason on why
we need to considered having a conducive type of environment.

My Personal Illustration of an Effective School Environment

Education and the school environment are one the three primary agents of
socialization where learners spend most of their time, with this the school environment
must rears positive outcomes, but how?
Effectiveness of school environment relies on its safe learning environment that is
free from hazardous places. The school is a center of learning, therefore, its safety
standards should be applied at all times to avoid accidents inside the classroom and the
campus itself. It should have a clean environment to make the learners comfortable and
safe during their studies. A positive learning environment have appropriate facilities, well-
managed classrooms, school-based health support like medical clinic and guidance
office, libraries and audio-visual rooms. A positive learning environment also possess a
fair disciplinary policy. The effective leaning environment consists of learners that know
how to respect their classmates and teachers must be able to adjust smoothly in certain
situations for the welfare of his or her students.
To be able to define that the school is conducive and effective, all factors must be
considered both on its physical and psychological features to attain the positive and non-
threatening.
