Activity 2: Structure of Matter and its Property

1. Illustrate the different state of matter.

● Solid - matter is composed of tightly packed particles and is relatively rigid. A

solid will retain its volume and shape. The atoms and molecules are attached to
each other. They vibrate in place but don’t move around.
● Liquid - matter is made of more loosely packed particles because atoms and
molecules are loosely bonded. It will take the shape of its container. Particles can
move about within a liquid, but they are packed densely enough that volume is
maintained.
● Gaseous - matter is composed of particles packed so loosely that it has neither
a definite shape nor a definite volume. The atoms and molecules move freely and
spread apart from one another.
2. Create a detailed state of matter concept map.

3. Explain how the usage of the following material depends on their

property:

a. Medical implants

● Implantable devices are medical devices that are implanted into people's bodies
for diagnostic, monitoring, or therapeutic purposes. They can be temporary or
permanent.
● Responsive polymers have been used to facilitate the deployment or removal of
devices with minimal damage to the host tissue, support the function of current
devices to treat ailments, deliver drugs, control infection, or monitor physiological
factors or biomolecules. This is their unique responsiveness and rational design
in terms of clinical needs.
● Examples include the artificial heart, bone implant, implantable
cardioverter-defibrillator, cardiac pacemaker, and coronary stent.
b. Sports Equipment

● The sports equipment incorporates a variety of disciplines, not just to improve

performance but also to make the equipment as user-friendly as possible in
terms of injury prevention.
● Clearly, materials science, mechanical engineering, and physics are all involved
in this sport equipment, but it also demands an understanding of anatomy,
physiology, and biomechanics. The science of how the body reacts to internal
and external forces is known as biomechanics.
● As a result, it is an attempt to apply the fundamental rules of physics and
mechanics to the body's joints, ligaments, and tissues as they are loaded.
● Golf Club and Running Track are two examples of sport equipment.

c. Electronic Devices

● Electronic devices encrypt, analyze, and transmit data using electric current. It
makes up a large part of what people use today.
● These are components that allow the transmission of electrical currents in order
to process data and control systems. We can access the network to conduct
business and to file transmissions. Video chat allows distant family and friends to
communicate and close the distance between them.
● Examples are electronic controls in automatic cameras, mobile phones, storage
devices such as flash drives, input devices such as keyboards, mice, and
scanners, output devices such as printers and speakers.

d. Construction Materials

● Construction materials are what hold the industrial world together, they are
essential to our safety. Establish the materials' stiffness and strength to ensure
the stability of the structure.
● This may enhance many parts of the construction process by choosing
appropriate construction materials. It can ensure that material qualities are
reliable, safe, and within design limitations.
● Wood, concrete, steel, cement, aggregates, bricks, clay, metal, and a variety of
other materials are examples of construction materials.
e. Household Gadgets

● Household gadgets are significant appliances that are utilized in our homes for a
variety of daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, exercising, purifying, and food
preservation.
● These have become more user-friendly as a result of technological
advancements and inventions, allowing household chores to be completed as
swiftly as possible.
● The more we try to make our lives more efficient and effective, the more
important household gadgets become in establishing a man's lifestyle. The colour
scheme of any home décor is greatly influenced by the appliances that are used
in it.
● Rice cooker, light bulb, clothes ironing machine, and television are the examples
of household gadgets.
