ABOUT DELHI COMMISSION FOR PROTECTION OF CHILD RIGHTS:

The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has been constituted
under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005. It is the
statutory watchdog of the Government of Delhi on matters of child rights. Some of the
child rights the Commission works are:

1. protection of children from exploitation, abuse, labour, trafficking, and


violence.
2. Protection of children from sexual offences;
3. Protection of children from child marriage;
4. Right to Education;
5. Right to Health with emphasis on the pregnancy care, infant care,
immunisation, protection against malnutrition, etc;
6. Protection of rights of children with special needs;
7. Protection of children from substance abuse;
8. Enforcement of legal protections for children in case they commit offences
and the necessary safeguards associated therein;
9. Right to play;

There are different divisions within the Commission for monitoring the implementation
of these rights, reviewing safeguards, inquiring into violations and advising the
government on policy formulation and amendments. Each of these divisions is mapped
to corresponding departments of the government and is headed by a Member, a State
Government Secretary level position. There are 6 Members who all report to the
Chairperson.

WHAT DO THE INTERNS DO?

The interns report to and work closely with the officials of the Commissions. The officers
posted in the Commission are called Members of the Commission. It is Principal
Secretary, Government of Delhi equivalent post (Note: Principal Secretary is the
highest-ranking officer in any department of the government). Depending upon the
work, interns may report to Consultants/Sr Consultants/ Members/ Secretary/
Chairperson.

Currently, the Commission offers 36 positions of internships. Please note that the
application is on a rolling basis. Interns perform on or more of the following functions:

1. Conduct background research on different issues involving children such as


violence and abuse, child labour, education, health & nutrition, etc.
2. Conduct field visits to anganwadis, schools, children homes to collect facts and
prepare background reports. They also assist inspection teams.
3. Prepare background policy briefs on different issues related to children
4. Handle social media for the Commission in a manner prescribed
5. Assist in the project management and their logistics including but not limited to
different interventions, rescue operations, on-site awareness activities, training
programmes etc.
6. Draft notices/summons/legal briefs as may be assigned
7. Engage in teaching, learning and extra-curricular activities, if assigned to work in
children homes
8. Assist the Commission in resolving different grievances raised by citizens.
9. Any other task that the Commission deems appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS:
Essential Requirements:

1. Commitment to public service;


2. Good communication skills (Both, hindi and english)
3. Work ethics and high integrity;
4. Basic humility to work in teams and setting;
5. Basic levels of proficiency in English (writing, reading);
6. Microsoft office (Excel, Powerpoint and Word);
7. Computer/laptops;

Preferred Requirements:
1. Background (either academic or work experience) in law, policy, social
work, education, counseling;
2. Prior experience of working for public cause as part of volunteering
or employment;

Reporting Manager:
The Chairperson and Members of DCPCR will supervise all interns, however the day to
day supervision would be done by the consultants at the Commission.

INTERNSHIP FAQs

Q1: Is there any stipend for the internship?


A: Yes. Rs. 3000 will be given as a stipend to the interns. (Subject to the terms
and condition) in addition to travel reimbursements.

Q2: What are the terms and conditions for receiving the stipend and the
reimbursement?
A: It must be a full-time internship. Part-time interns are not eligible for
reimbursements or stipend.It must be an in-office internship. “Work from home” or
“distant internship” is not eligible for reimbursements or stipend.

Q3: Will the intern be given a certificate at the end of the internship?
A: Yes. A certificate will be provided at the end of the internship.

Q4: Can the intern be provided a Letter of Recommendation(LoR) at the


end of the internship?
A: A Letter of Recommendation (LoR) for the purpose of future employment and
university may be provided depending upon performance.

Q5: What is the duration of the internship?


The internship must at least be 1 month long, extendable upon mutual agreement.

Q6: Does the internship require physical presence?


A: Physical presence in the office is required most of the time. However, depending
upon the nature of work, it might be possible to work from elsewhere with prior
permission of the reporting manager. However, this will be an exception, not the norm.

Q7: What is the minimum time commitment for the internship?


A: Internship must be of 1 month at the least, subject to extension on the agreement of
both the parties.

Q8: What is the date of joining?


A: It is flexible. You must indicate that in your application form. We process
applications on a rolling basis.
Q9: Where will the intern work out of?
The intern will work out of the Commission’s office located on 5th Floor, ISBT Building,
Kashmere Gate, Delhi-110006. This may be subject to exceptions depending upon the
project.

Q10: Will the intern get a laptop?


A: No. The intern must bring his/her own laptop.

Q11: What is the minimum qualification to apply for the internship?


A: There is no minimum qualification. However, the selection is dependent on the
nature of the role one is applying for and the suitability of the applicant for it.

Q12: Can foreign nationals apply?


Yes. They are welcome to apply as the Commission believes in diversity of work culture.
The Commission shall provide a letter of support to facilitate the visa process. However,
all costs for the visa are to be borne by the intern. Further, they are expected to comply
with all legal requirements, as may be applicable.

Q13: What are the office hours?


A: It is from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. However, depending upon the requirement and load
of work, it is quite possible that the work hours may be extended. Though, Saturdays
and Sundays are official holidays, depending upon the nature of work, some of these
days may be work days. So, please apply only if you are really passionate about this
internship. However, working on weekends will be an exception, not the norm.

Q14: Will my political beliefs, gender, caste, disability, religion or sexual


orientation be factored into the selection process?
A: We are an equal opportunity organisation. Candidates are selected on the basis of

age, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, marital status, or mental or
physical disability is not tolerated. We are very respectful of diversity and would initiate
strict action should discriminatory actions be engaged by any staff member.

Q15: What is the last date for application?


A: There is no fixed last date. It is on a rolling basis. The Commission shall close the
internships for which we have found suitable candidates. We process applications on a
rolling basis.
