Due to the challenges brought by the pandemic, there is a need to recalibrate the strategy of the teaching
and learning process, anchored on the fact that students have long been disengaged from academic learning
since the onset of COVID-19.
By ensuring flexibility in teaching and learning process to help reduce stress, burden, and anxiety, the
following measures are highly recommended:
2. Conduct synchronous classes (live online class) not more than twice a week in every block. That
means, teachers must agree on the same day or days that they are going to meet the students
synchronously. In this manner, we are going to avoid single (sole) classes conducted in a day, but
making use of the time and money spent by the students in their load to attend classes;
3. Prioritize simpler activities that focus on the most essential learning competencies. Additionally, provide
leniency in its implementation;
4. Inform the students ahead of time before posting any quiz or activities to give them time to prepare for
their gadget (for those who only borrow) and their load;
5. Streamline learning modules posted online or distributed to emphasize only on the most essential part
that ensure learning development and sufficiently cover the subject, yet concise and brief;
6. Maintain positive and subtle approach in dealing with students’ inquiries, so as not to instill negativities
in both their mental and emotional wellbeing; and
7. Support to the mental health / socio-emotional wellbeing of teachers and students should be expanded
by organizing group wellness sessions and the like.
The guidelines proposed herein are expected to benefit the students, including the teachers, to adapt to the
challenges of the new normal in the teaching and learning process and make necessary adjustments
throughout the school year.
