On a separate sheet of paper, make a family tree showing both maternal and paternal
lineage. You can start from the grandparent of your parents to your existence. Write your
take away/reflection from this activity

Reflection

A.

While creating my family tree, I realized that we are the only family with a high
number of children. My mother is the oldest and my father is the youngest in their family. My
mother is older than my father. They had a five-year age difference. My mother, the eldest in
an impoverished family, chose to move here to Zamboanga in search of employment.
Fortunately, her job is supportive and allows her to attend school while also covering her
expenditures. She graduated from high school with an honor. On the other hand, my father is
the polar opposite. He lives with his parents and enjoys life with his classmates. But,
because my grandmother is severe, my father ran away from home and went to live with his
uncle, where he worked. They met in college and lived together for a year after that. My
mother was in her third year of college, studying teaching, when she fell pregnant with my
older sister, who died before she was born. My mother was able to bring her siblings to the
city and pay their education. The other went to her employer's sister's house and worked
there. Knowing what they've gone through inspires me to believe that I, too, can accomplish
it. Perhaps, as the eldest, I can provide a better life for my siblings.

Study Questions

1. What is the importance of tracing your parent’s lineage?

It gives you a sense of self. Nothing is more eye-opening than discovering who you
are. Understanding your forebears, honoring family customs, embracing your culture,
and learning about your ancestors may help you see how wonderful and special you
are. It can also improve your sense of self-worth and belonging.

2. How does hereditary and environment play their role to your own personality?
Indeed, heredity and environment play an essential influence in the formation of a
person's personality and other traits. No one can be born without heredity, and genes
cannot grow in the absence of an appropriate environment. An individual's genetics is
present from the time of conception, and some environmental circumstances begin to
influence him at this point as well.

1. Why is the study of genetics and environment important in the understanding of the
development of children from birth to six years?

It is important since both hereditary and the environment have factors that
influence a child's development. There were some characteristics that were
shared by both factors, for us to understand the difference between one child and
another. Such as physical and psychological traits, obesity, personality,
temperament, psychopathology, schizophrenia, and autism. Another aspect is the
domains that a child is expected to know by the age of 5-6 years. These domains
are the physical domain, cognitive, language, and emotional/social/moral.
