Q.1) Answer the following given questions:

i. What personal safety protection devices or clothing must you wear while working in the
shop?

Answer
Required personnel protection equipment (PPE) must be always worn when
on construction or renovation sites at Princeton University. At a minimum, each
employee is required to wear a hard hat and safety glasses. High visibility
safety vests with reflective striping are required when employees are exposed
to vehicular traffic. In the absences of vehicular traffic, high visibility shirts
should be always worn. All workers must wear shirts with sleeves, long
work pants, and sturdy work shoes or boots when working on a construction or
renovation site. Sleeveless or tank top shirts, short pants, sweatpants,
sneakers, sandals, and high-heeled or open-toed shoes are not permitted.
Depending on the circumstances and potential hazards present, additional PPE
may be required. This determination will be made by your supervisor based on
the preliminary Job Hazard Analysis; EHS may also be consulted. Additional PPE
may include:
• Protective gloves
• Hearing protection
• Full face shields when cutting, grinding, or chipping
• Chemical splash goggles
• Respiratory protection
• Fall protection equipment when working above 6 feet
• Specific protective clothing such as welding leathers when welding
or FR clothing when working with live electric

ii. Name only the operations which are performed on Lathe Machine?

Answer
The most common lathe operations are turning, facing,
grooving, parting, threading, drilling, boring, knurling, and
tapping.

iii. What accessories do we need to get starting the machining operation using
a lathe?

Answer
The Lathe Machine Accessories are those which are used for holding and
supporting the work material or for holding the cutting tool.
Lathe Machine Accessories:
• Face Plate.
• Catch plate or Dog plate.
• Mandrel.
• Steady rest.
• Follower rest.
• Chuck.

iv. How can we accurately drill very small holes of large depths?

Answer
In drilling, holes as small as 0.005 mm in diameter can be produced with laser.
Holes larger than 1.25 mm in diameter are produced with the trepanning
technique.

v. In what aspects a CNC milling machine is superior to a conventional milling machine?

Answer
The most basic difference between the two is the automation of CNC versus the manual
nature of conventional. Speed, production rate, and accuracy are some of the main
advantages of CNC machining over conventional machining.
