What were the key concepts/topics discussed in this module?
• This module exhibited the features of a behavior model and the importance of understanding the behavior model with reference to leadership. • Furthermore, it showed that how as individuals we not only create but also control our behavior. • The concept of leadership is a process of transforming resources into results through connections. Each of these aspects that comprise leadership are analyzed using examples, and the scope of leadership is finally established. • Following are the six key elements of leadership: o initiative o inquiry o advocacy o conflict resolution o decision-making o critique • The module concluded with the discussion of the grid framework of leadership. It explored leadership graphically as consisting of concern for production (X-axis) and concern for people (Y-axis). The framework provides the basis for different leadership styles as per the measures on each axis. What resonated with you the most? The relationships are sine qua non for conversion of resources to results in the process of leadership. It is uncommon knowledge but critique forms an important element of leadership. It is believed to be the responsibility of an external factor, like a coach or an observer who is not completely involved in the game; when in reality it is the leader’s responsibility. Additionally, what constitutes critique is laid out in no uncertain terms, which is quite necessary for leaders or those with power to learn from. What resonated with you the least? Practicing Advocacy in case of a crisis which is the art of balancing both risk taking and having safe measures during a difficult situation. There is uncertainty involved since the situation could go either way hence trusting your instinct could sometimes be hazardous. What are some insights/ learnings for you as a professional that either reinforce or provide new direction to your leadership style? Learning about various management styles and behaviour/beliefs made me realise that every individuals/leader may address a similar situation differently. It is also difficult to evaluate or choose a certain style when both the approaches might be successful in achieving the desired results. A prime example of this would be stark difference in leadership style/beliefs/behaviour between Kohli and Dhoni. Here, it is difficult to evaluate who has a better style of leadership as both are successful in their own way. Where can you apply the learnings/ insight in your life? • The elements of leadership can be applied in various aspects of corporate and personal life which helps in distinguishing us from the others which further helps us in gaining respect and admiration. • Understanding the various leadership styles will help us to evaluate the right style of leadership for a specific situation in order to resolve the issues. • Understanding our styles and beliefs will help us hone ourselves in areas where we lack and improve upon them. • Additionally, a major takeaway would be to be more people oriented rather than being purely outcome oriented
