Sarah’s Saturday
Sarah Hughes is sixteen years old and she lives in Birmingham. She looks and behaves like
a normal teenager, but she doesn’t get up late on Saturdays, and she can’t eat fast food!
That’s because she’s also an athlete, so her day is different from her friends’ routines. Sarah
gets up at half past six and goes to the gym. In winter she gets up in the dark. ‘I prefer
summer,’ she says, ‘It’s not too difficult to get up when it’s light, warm and the birds are
singing!’ After her training in the gym, she has breakfast. Later, Sarah meets her sports
trainer Simon and they often run, swim or cycle before lunch. Sometimes Sarah takes part
in sports competitions at the weekend. Her main event is the marathon. There are
competitions every month and Sarah travels to different places. ‘When I’m cold and tired
and I’m running a marathon, I think of my friends. They go shopping on Saturday
afternoon and buy clothes and have coffee! But when I finish the marathon, I’m happy and
I feel great!’ In the evening, Sarah can relax more. She often goes to the cinema with her
friends. She does a lot of sport at the weekend because she hasn’t got much time during the
week. She’s at school then, and she can’t think about sport all the time!
