BSIE-HE/4A ENVISCI-ACTIVITY NUMBER 2

Answer the questions in 2 paragraphs containing 7 sentences each.

1. Explain the concept of sustainability and its social, political, and cultural
challenges

In my understanding as a student, the concept of sustainability and its social,

political, and cultural challenges. Sustainability is about meeting and achieving the needs
of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs
and wants. Meaning sustainability is very important because we are trying to sustain our
ways of life on earth as well as earth’s ability to meet our needs not just today but in the
future as well. This means we must use earth’s resources in a way that can be used
forever. If we much of something today it could be gone forever and ever. Consequently,
we often associate sustainability with things like recycling, using renewable energy
sources like solar and wind power and preserving natural spaces like rainforests and coral
reefs. In other words, the concept of sustainability still accounts for the need to preserve
natural space, to use resources wisely and to maintain in an equitable manner of all
human beings who are existing and living in this world.

Lastly, the concept of sustainability and its social, political, and cultural challenge.
All of us always encountered and experienced these challenges in each of them there
are some influencing factors like climate change, land use, jobs, education, gender
equality, income and the importance of these factors and approach should vary
completely depending on the country. The only constant is that for development to be
sustainable, the solutions must come from within the country. And even if you get all these
rights other variables are not in our control that can jeopardize the development of our
country. Like climatic disasters, wars, political instability and pandemic diseases come to
mind. These could be seen as windows of opportunity to promote more fundamental
changes in society. Also, to increase these problems, poverty and inequalities among
others.
2. Evaluate the main points of environmental ethics

Based on my own understanding after studying the videos and power point
presentation given. The main points of environmental ethics are focuses in three main
areas including resource ethics, animal ethics and ethics of nature protection. First, is
the Resource ethics basically it is focuses on responsible management, deployable
resource and environmental media. Meaning this ethics is responsible to protect and
pro long the life of our resources for the future generations. Second, is the Animal
ethics, that seeks protection, safeguarding and responsible treatment for the animals.
Meaning, this animal ethics are very important for the animals because, every animal
deserves and also needs to have a good life where they enjoy their lives. Also, animal
ethics not only examine animals they’re also examines both human animal relationship
and how human should treat animals.

The Third and last area of environmental ethics, is the ethics of nature protection.
We as an individual are very aware on the issues about environmental pollution.
Because of the continues to grow throughout the years in the bigger and toxic
population, including the demand for resources also in fleet. However, as we observed
throughout the years animals, plants and habitats are being destroyed for human
inhabitation. Sadly, without their habitat’s animals lose their need in the scarcity of
needs and even their wants this will lead to their death. Lastly, this environmental ethics
made me realize that we must take responsible to preserve our nature for the future
generation and we need to be mindful and balance the availability of resources that we
have. As a future teacher I will do my best to educate my students in preserving and
loving our nature.
3. Describe the concept of environmental justice

In my point of view, the concept of environmental justice. It’s a movement that

insists that every person or individual no matter their race, ethnicity, nationality, gender
or even social class. They have the right to clean healthy environment with equal access
to environmental goods like nutritious foods. And just part in the environmental decision
making, affecting the health of their community. Also, Environmental justice is very
important because it is a basic human right and all of us has a right no matter who you
are. Basically, the concept of environmental justice allows everyone to have some level
agency over the decisions that impact their lives. And it also improves and maintain a
clean, meaningful and healthful environment for all.

In addition, when we think that protecting the environment is regarded from many
people as an optional matter. That’s why some other people believed that is something
people should care about only when they have plenty of time and money. However, this
environmental justice, it seems to me that we rely on the environment for what we need
to live long, meaningful and happy lives. People needs nutritious and healthy food to be
energized and also to be healthy. People needs clean air to stay healthy. Also, people
need green space to improve their mental health. As humans continue to take
unsustainably from the planet where their lived.
4. Differentiate between developed and developing countries

In my own perspectives, the difference between developed and developing

countries. Develop countries has a high Gross domestic product (GDP), life
expectancy, literacy rate, energy consumption, infrastructure and control of their
environment. A develop countries, has relatively low population growth and low reliance
on agriculture. When we say Develop countries with lots of factories, jobs, technology
and healthy infrastructure would have a high GDP literacy rate is much the population
of a certain age can read a region not dependent on child labor and requiring skilled
job. Developed countries have a well-developed legal frame work. Everything to do with
business and ownership is codified. The ownership of every square meter of land is
registered and even the humblest shack has a legal owner.

On the other side, there are called developing countries they’re heavily engage
in agricultural. Although, many farms it is subsistence farming, this farming does allow
the farmers to get an ahead. They, are only lucky, able to grow enough to provide for
their family. A developing country, also called a less develop country or emerging
market has a lower gross domestic product (GDP) than developed countries, with a
less mature and sophisticated economy. However, developing countries on the other
hand have unstable governments and mostly to follow the policies made by develop
countries. Also, the growth rate of developing countries in education sector is low as
compared to develop countries. Lastly, developing countries have a low and no
developed legal frame work.
