7. Speed and Distance Log Device- the bridge equipment on a ship is used to
measure the speed and distance the ship has travelled from a given point
8. Echo Sounder- instrument that has been used for nearly 100 years used to
measure the depth of water below the bottom of a ship using sound waves
9. Electronic Chart Display Information (ECDIS)- a development of a navigation chart
system used on ships.
10. Automatic Identification system (AIS)- AIS also among types of navigation system
that help to accurately determine the position and other navigation statistics of
ships.
11. Long Range Tracking and Identification (LRIT) System- is an international tracking
and identification system incorporated by IMO in accordance with it SOLAS
convention to provide through tracking system for ships of 300 gross tonnage
12. Rudder Angel Indicator- as the name suggest shows steering angle the display is
located on the bridge equipment console so the ships navigator can control the
steering speed and rudder angle.
13. Voyage Data Recorder- an essential tool in the list of shipborne navigation
equipment that is installed on a ship to continuously record important information
related to the operation
14. Rate of turn indicator- Rate of turn indicator or ROTI on board vessels indicates the
rate a ship is turning. It indicates the rate a ship is turning in degrees per minute
(°/min) . It is one of the most important instruments a helmsman can have when
steering a course.
15. GPS Receiver- A GPS Receiver is a L-band radio processor capable of solving the
navigation equations in order to determine the user position, velocity and precise
time (PVT), by processing the signal broadcasted by GPS satellites.
16. Sound Reception System- Sound reception systems are electronic acoustical
navigational aids that enable the ship’s crew to hear audio signals generated from
outside an enclosed bridge. The sound reception system is installed as an aid for
look-out as required by the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at
Sea (COLREG), 1972 standards. Sound reception systems can also be installed on
vessels lacking fully enclosed bridges.
17. Navigation Lights-
A navigation light, also known as a running or position light, is a source of
illumination on a vessel, aircraft or spacecraft. Navigation lights give information on
a craft's position, heading, integrates and status. Their placement is mandated by
international conventions or civil authorities.
18. Daylight Signalling Lamp- It's purpose is to communicate by light during day and
night using an energy source of electrical power not solely dependent on the ship's
power supply.
19. Voyage/ Route planner- is a novel tool for sea route distance calculation.

20. Transmitting Heading Devices- an electronic device that provides information about
the ship's true heading.
Sidelights: These red and green lights are called sidelights (also called combination
lights) because they are visible to another vessel approaching from the side or head-
on. ...
Sternlight: This white light is seen only from behind or nearly behind the vessel.
Masthedlight: a white, forward-facing light that must be displayed by boats at night
when operating under motor power
