Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year in the Primary School.

The following booklet provides general information about this academic course and some guidance on behavioural issues
that your child will be expected to abide by. We hope that these will give you a clearer understanding of the typical day to
day functioning of the school.

With regard to ongoing updates and changes due to COVID-19, please continue to read the advice sent by the school
regarding health and safety regulations and operating guidelines.

We intend to provide a rich and varied curriculum through a stimulating programme which follows both the Inspired model
and the English National Curriculum, while supporting the different learning styles and the development of our pupils.

Our aim is for your child to enjoy their time at school, to develop knowledge, awareness, understanding and values in
order to reach his/her full potential in all academic and social areas of school life.

Should you need further information during the year, staff will always be pleased to meet with you. However, to ensure
that a teacher is available we would ask you to first make an appointment either through the school office: Tel- 91 803 48
00, or by emailing the teacher directly.

We also look forward to meeting you at the various parents’ evenings, information meetings and social events held
throughout the year. At these meetings you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress at school. You will
also receive a written report on your child’s progress each term this year.

Hair and general appearance:

All children are expected to be tidily dressed at all times, shirts worn inside their skirt or trousers.

Boys’ hair should be worn short.

Girls should wear their hair tidily and if they need to wear any hair bands or ribbons, they should be
navy blue, black or dark green only.

Jewellery - girls should wear discreet earrings. Bracelets and necklaces should not be worn, and
only a simple, plain watch (no smart watches). Children will be expected to take off earrings and
watches for PE lessons – it may be better to leave them at home on these days.

Bags:

Pupils need a rucksack to carry school books and materials and a separate bag for sports and
swimming

As a part of the Inspired group, we will be following a model that enhances our already rich and broad
curriculum, and supports the development of academically successful, confident and flexible young citizens.
The key differences are outlined below:

LKS2 (Years 3 & 4)

Year 3 and 4 will receive more specialist teaching in PE (including Dance), Music, Drama, Art and Computing
as well as their continuation of Lengua / Spanish classes and a lesson of Ciencias Sociales.

UKS2 (Years 5 & 6)

Year 5 and 6 will move to more specialist teaching throughout the day for English, Maths, Science, Humanities,
Spanish /Lengua and Ciencias Sociales, PE (including a Dance option), Music, Drama, Art, French and
Computing. There will also be a rotation of assessments that will be introduced once a week on the timetable
as “Cycle Tests”.
The Year 5 and 6 pupils will have an experienced member of the Key Stage 2 team as their form tutor whom
they will see for 10 minutes every morning for their tutor session, and then will also be taught by the same tutor
for at least a daily lesson of either English or Maths as well as a weekly session of PSHE. This will ensure that
the pastoral care and development of the pupils is closely monitored and supported by their form tutor.

throughout Primary.

These platforms are used widely in the UK and abroad to support the British Curriculum. You do not
need to use other sites that you may find online. Some of the resources need a login which your child
will be provided with during the first weeks of term. Students generally enjoy using these websites to
do independent learning and some homework tasks throughout the year. Using digital learning
outside of the classroom should complement other activities that you do at home with your child, not
replace them.

We are, now more than ever, aware of the benefits of online learning and the positive impact
technology can have on our lives but we would also like to remind parents that it is important to
remain vigilant of their children’s use of the computer; in particular chat functions, social media and
online gaming.

Although internet can be a very useful tool, it is always advisable to:

- Be vigilant of children using internet while they are by themselves. Avoid allowing
children to have a computer in their own room.

- Keep a check on web pages they have visited.

- Use adequate filters for children’s use of the computer if you think this is needed in
your home setting.

Learning at home is an essential part of the good education to which all our children are entitled. It is
not just about reinforcing learning in the classroom, although that is important. A good, well
organised homework programme helps children to develop the skills and attitudes they need to
become confident, successful, and independent learners.

Children will need access to a computer, the internet and a printer at home in order to complete
online homework and to facilitate research and project work.

If for any legitimate reason, children are not able to complete a piece of homework on time, the
parents should inform the child’s teacher.

Health and Safety
● Please carefully read and follow the advice sent by the school regarding COVID-19 health and safety
updates.
● Please contact the school before 9am if your child is going to be absent - we then know they are safe.

● No mobile phones / electronic equipment or any valuables are allowed in school.
● Healthy snacks only please e.g. a piece of fruit, a sandwich, cereal bars etc.
● Birthdays - no sweets, cakes or edible produce is allowed but a small, non-food based gift is permitted
to be brought in for others. (No gifts during COVID times.)
● We have a NO NUT policy (including pipas) – children should not bring any snacks to school with nuts
in or any food with nuts for class celebrations.
● Bubble/Chewing gum is forbidden.
● If a child goes on a school bus, they should always wear a seatbelt and behave appropriately.
● No Primary pupil should bring money to school unless specifically requested by the school.
● Children should not lean out of any window.
● Children should WALK (never run) on the right hand side of the corridor.
● At playtimes, children should always ask permission to go into school e.g. to the bathroom, to the nurse
etc.
● Football games are only allowed before or after school in the top courts.
● No children should enter the school premises after 4.30pm unless supervised by a teacher.
● If a child has to take medicine at school, it must be taken straight to the school nurse, clearly marked
with the child’s name and instructions on dosage and timings.
○ Many children’s illnesses are contagious and in some cases your child should be kept at home
and not allowed to mix with others:
■ Colds are contagious from one day before the symptoms start until 3-4 days later.
■ Chicken pox is most infectious from a day before the spots appear until they crust over.
■ Tummy bugs and gastroenteritis - the child should be kept at home as long as he/she
has any diarrhoea or fever and for 24 hours after vomiting.
■ Conjunctivitis (bacterial) is infectious from when the eye is red, until a day after the child
starts antibiotics. Viral conjunctivitis is contagious for 5-7 days.
■ Head lice - Children should be kept at home until treatment proves to be effective.

Special dates
Throughout the year, there will be opportunities for parents to come into school. These will all appear in the
school calendar and an email / Class Dojo notification will also be sent home. These days include: Open
Afternoons, Parent Presentation Evenings, Parent Appointment Evenings, Special Assemblies, Trips and Year
Group Shows. We also invite parents to offer their skills and experiences in class assemblies and smaller
workshops. The school calendar is available on the Parent Portal and on the iParent App.

● Por favor, lea atentamente y siga los consejos enviados por la escuela sobre las actualizaciones de
salud y seguridad de COVID-19.
● Por favor, póngase en contacto con el colegio antes de las 9 de la mañana si su hijo va a estar
ausente, entonces sabemos que están a salvo. Puede enviar un correo electrónico a
soto.attendance@kings.education con el tutor de la clase en copia.
● No se permiten teléfonos móviles / equipos electrónicos u objetos de valor en el colegio.
● Sólo snacks saludables, por favor. Por ejemplo: una pieza de fruta, barritas de cereales, etc.
● Cumpleaños - no se permiten dulces, pasteles o productos comestibles, pero sí se permite traer un
pequeño regalo no alimenticio para la clase. (No se pueden hacer regalos durante el tiempo de Covid.)
● Tenemos una política de NO FRUTOS SECOS (incluidas las pipas), por lo que los niños no deben traer
nada de comida con frutos secos al colegio.
● Los chicles están prohibidos.
● En el autobús escolar, el niño debe usar siempre el cinturón de seguridad, y comportarse de manera
apropiada.
● Ningún alumno de primaria debe traer dinero al colegio, a menos que lo solicite específicamente el
colegio.
● Los niños no deben apoyarse en ninguna ventana.
● Los niños deben CAMINAR (nunca correr) por el lado derecho del pasillo.
● En las horas de recreo, los niños siempre deben pedir permiso para entrar en el colegio, por ejemplo:
para ir al baño, a la enfermería, etc.
● El fútbol solo se permite antes o después del colegio, en los mejores casos.
● Ningún niño debe entrar en las instalaciones del colegio después de las 4.30 p.m. a menos que sea
supervisado por un profesor.
● Si un niño tiene que tomar medicamentos en la escuela, estos deben ser llevados directamente a la
enfermera del colegio, con el nombre del niño e instrucciones sobre la dosis y los horarios.
○ Muchas enfermedades infantiles son contagiosas y, en algunos casos, su hijo/a deberá
permanecer en casa sin poder mezclarse con otros niños/as.
■ Los catarros son infecciosos desde el día anterior a que comiencen los síntomas hasta
3 ó 4 días más tarde.
■ La varicela es más infecciosa durante el periodo que va desde que aparece el primer
grano hasta que los granos cicatrizan.
■ Malestar estomacal y gastroenteritis – el niño/a habrá de quedarse en casa mientras
tenga diarrea o fiebre y durante las 24 horas siguientes a haber vomitado.
■ La conjuntivitis (bacteriana) es infecciosa desde que el ojo se irrita (se pone rojo) hasta
el momento en que el niño/a comienza a tomar antibióticos. La conjuntivitis viral es
contagiosa durante 5-7 días.
■ Piojos - Los niños/as deberán permanecer en casa hasta que el tratamiento que utilicen
surta efecto

Fechas especiales
A lo largo del año, habrá oportunidades para que los padres vengan al colegio. Todas estas fechas,
aparecerán el el calendario escolar, y será enviado también un correo electrónico individual. Esos días
incluyen: Open Afternoons, Parent Presentation Evenings, Parent Appointment Evenings, Special Assemblies,
Trips y Year Group Shows.También invitamos a los padres a contar sus habilidades y experiencias en
asambleas de clase y talleres más pequeños. El calendario escolar está disponible en el Parent Portal y en la
app de iParent.
