REFLECTION PAPER
A. Presentation of the film during the 19th Century.
During the Spanish colonization to the Philippines, we were not able to fight back instantly
due to the cruelty and brutality towards to the Filipino people. The poor Filipinos decided or
preferred to live among these cruel and brutal Spaniards. And due to these unacceptable
circumstances has led to a more than 3 centuries of under the colonization and influence of the
Spanish government. During this time Filipino were considered as the lower ranking because of
some Filipinos at that time were economically marginalized, they are not worthy of respect and
fairness of life. More than 3 centuries of living among them we Filipinos we able to adapt and
practice many of their culture and religious belief and practices. There are only few Filipinos who
possess a reputable position in the government and majority of the position were given to the
Spanish and resulting to less power given to the Filipinos. As cruelty and brutality continuously
executed by the Spaniards, some brave men have come up an idea to fight back what truly
belongs to us and fight for our freedom and independence.

B. Reflection on the film and understanding. Learning Outcome.

To begin with, Spanish colonization started at the year 1521, wherein Ferdinand
Magellan found the Philippine island. As Magellan sets foot on the island he began to
introduce some false agendas that led the Filipinos into a trap of colonizing the island for more
3 centuries. At first, there was a harmonious relationship of both countries, and time goes by
the Spaniard were revealing their true identity of being cruel, brutal, and authoritative. With
this Filipinos started a revolution to fight back and vanquish Spanish colony in the island.
In addition to, Filipinos were not able to fight the Spanish colony, the Filipinos were
outnumbered by the Spaniards. Many lives were taken during revolution of Filipino to the
Spanish colony. These unprecedented circumstances led to more brutality and cruelty shown
by the Spaniards that results to more Filipinos were deprived of their right and privileges as a
Filipino in the Philippine islands. There were many women who subjected to sexual abuse and
mistreated house servants. And during this time, if you came from an economically
marginalized families you are considered as nobody and powerless person in the community.
By the oppression of the Spaniards, only few Filipinos possess a position in the government
and given only to those who have a connection to the Spanish government. And majority of
the position including the highest rank in the government were given to the Spanish people.
Furthermore, owing to the fact, that more than 3 centuries of living as well as
governing the Philippines island by the cruel and brutal Spaniards, the Filipinos preferred to
live among these people, living with fear and uncertainty of their security. And considering a
long year of control and surveillance of the Spanish colony, we Filipinos has adapted and
practice many of the Spanish cultures, belief system, judicial and educational system. This is
evident to our daily lives of living and socializing with one another. However, we do not want
to have the Spaniards to rule over us forever, some brave have courage to start a revolution
to vanquish the Spanish colony in the Philippine Island and this cause many lives that were
dedicated to the freedom, peace and independence of our country.
