among followers. The leader fosters followers to explore new ways of doing things and

BSA 2025 Group 9

• Even-tempered and positive.

 After 10 years, being CEO of Google was due to his ability to innovate unique

products and leadership style.

- Sundar Pichai is very attentive to every detail and always knows how to cross the safe

zone to achieve results, prioritization of tasks, business vision, effective communication

and stress management

- At work, Sundar always emphasizes fair competition among employees with a calm

leadership style. His calm demeanor is also reflected in his speeches and in the use of

failure to find future success.

 Because of that, it makes the followers feel respect Sundar. Sunder has become a role

model to them.

The proof that Sundar Pichai is a transformational leader by Chrome's success:

- As everyone knows before Google Chrome, Internet Explorer has been around for a

long time and is used by the vast majority of people to access the Internet. Internet

Explorer at that time was mostly installed as the default browser on all computers. And

Chrome has been the top 1 web browser in the world.

- Google is one of the leading companies because it constantly has to attract customers

and retain the world's most creative minds and talents. To stay on top of the market,

Sundar always continues to participate with key employees actively. He wants to make

sure that Google is the place where people can achieve their goals. Sundar's commitment

to upholding its business nature to reward challenge-ready thinkers and innovators is the

The Problems:

Situation A:
A group of angry Google employees escalated their demands against the tech giant

Wednesday with new demands that, in part, asked the company to satisfy previously made

demands. Among them: that the company allow for an open investigation of its human

resources department.

The post listed four demands:

- "Google must meet the Walkout demands, already." The protesters have asked for

action before, such as calling for the company to have Google's chief diversity officer

report directly to CEO Sundar Pichai, but so far that has not happened.

- "We call on Larry Page to immediately and publicly address the Walkout’s demands,

and recommit Google to meeting them. Larry controls Alphabet’s board and has the

individual authority to make changes, where others do not." The current demands go

beyond asking for Pichai's response, and now want action from Page, Google's co-

founder and Alphabet Inc.'s CEO.

- "We call on Google to unblock Meredith’s transfer, and allow her to continue her work

as before, fully funded and supported, and to allow Claire to transfer to a new team

without continued retaliation and interference." This demand refers to Meredith

Whittaker, who leads Google’s Open Research. Whittaker, who was an organizer of

last month's walkout, has said her role in the company was going to be changed after

Google disbanded its external AI ethics council last month. Claire Stapleton was

another walkout organizer, who had previously said she was going to be demoted.

- "We call for a transparent, open investigation of HR and its abysmal handling of

employee complaints related to working conditions, discrimination, harassment and

retaliation." The post went on to note that other companies, namely Uber, took a

similar action when its actions came under scrutiny.

Discussion:
- We can see that some of the problems of the employees were not handle carefully and

successfully, they demand more attention from the CEO, Sundar Pichai.

- Not only Pichai, but they also require responses from other previous leader of the

company. Lary Page was a former CEO and the co-founder of Google, now have

become CEO of Alphabet, parent company of Google. Page is a very important person

in Google.

- Meredith was a former Director of Google’s Open Research. She was replaced after AI

ethics project disbanded. Meredith is an influential employee in the company. She

represents the interests and concerns of other employee in the company. That she left

make the employee unsatisfied about company’s decision.

- The employees were discontented about the HR (Human Resource), this apartment

was not handling issues regarding to working condition, discrimination, harassment,

retaliation, … Although Google ranked a very high place regarding to working culture,

these problems still happen.

Solutions:

9
BSA 2025 Group 9

- As a leader of Google, Pichai needs to care more to their employees. Their requests

need to send directly to the CEO. Additionally, Pichai also need to talk more to the

employees, to understand their concerns and help solving their problems.

- The CEO should ask for advices from formal leader of the company. They are the ones

who had experience and reputation, their contribution should benefit the company.

- There are individuals represent interests and concerns of the employees. So, it is very

important to ask for their opinions about some of the issues. The truth that if those

people left the company, there would be long-term consequences.

- Human Resource is a very crucial apartment in the company. That the HR take care of

the employees affects to attitude and satisfaction of the employee. Sundar Pichai needs

to examine the HR carefully, to improve their activity in the future.
