Reflection Paper
Instruction: Write a reaction paper or critique on the Kartilya ng
Katipunan. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the topic.

Be guided of the following questions:

1. What is Kartilya ng Katipunan?
2. Which of the points in the Kartilya can you relate to the most? Why?
3. Which of the points in the Kartilya is the most applicable in the present
time? Why?

Emilio Jacinto wrote the Kartilya ng Katipunan to guide the members of the
organization as it serves as a rule book for them. The Kartilya was all about
lessons that would help me live a more moral and ethical existence. It was
almost like a code of conduct for how to speak and act like a true Filipino. I
believe that this Kartilya ng Katipunan demonstrates how to live a meaningful
life. Each lesson is unique in that it touches on different aspects of my life. The
first underscores the significance of living a life with a purpose.

Kartilya ng Katipunan consist of 14 rules. But I can relate to the fourth rule,
which promotes human equality. I do believe that racism is present up until
now and I can see that as an individual and as a citizen of our country. It
states that a Katipuneros is treated equally regardless of race, skin color, or
educational status. People shall never be treated differently based on their
socioeconomic situation or identity. Nobody, whether Filipino or not, rich or
poor, man or woman, or different skin color, deserves to be treated unfairly.

Because of the pandemic we are currently experiencing, I believe the third rule
is the most applicable at this moment. The third rule elucidates the true
meaning of kindness. I can see similarities between our front-line workers and
the Katipuneros. A Katipunero's true act of kindness is the love and service he
provides to others, not the other way around. Just like our front-line workers
who put in a lot of time, effort, and sacrifice to work and serve us every day.
