GRADE 10 SCIENCE

NAME: _ Sec: Date: Score:

Activity I: LITHOSPHERE and Other Layers of the Earth

Earth's lithosphere includes the crust and the uppermost mantle, which constitutes the
hard and rigid outer layer of the Earth. The lithosphere is subdivided into tectonic plates. The
lithosphere is underlain by the asthenosphere which is the weaker, hotter, and deeper part of the
upper mantle. On the figure below identify the layer of the Earth being numbered by writing the
correct number on the circle.

Activity II: Comparing Continental and Oceanic Crust

Direction: Fill in the characteristics of continental and oceanic crust using the Venn diagram
below. Write only the letter of that corresponds on the area being describe.

Continental Crust Oceanic Crust Choices:

a. made up of basalt
b. made up of granite
c. less dense
d. denser
e. made of younger rocks
f. made of older rocks

SPECIFIC WEEK 1-2 (LAS 1)

TARGET COMPETENCY: Describe and relate the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake
epicenters, and major mountain belts to Plate Tectonic Theory (S10ES – Ia-j-36.1)
Activity III: Lithosphere’s Major Plate and Minor Plates

Direction: Given the map below identify the major and minor plates that makes our Earth’s
lithosphere.
