RITOS INICIALES | OBRZĘDY WSTĘPNE

Entrance Hymn | Canto de Entrada | Pieśń na wejście

Let Us Now With Crowns of Praises
1. Let us now with crowns of praises
Honor Peter, honor Paul;
Separated in the body,
Joined as one in faithful call.
Peter, foremost Gospel witness,
Paul, with labors without cease,
Both now stand in robes of glory
At the throne of Christ our Priest.
2. Let us now with hymns of gladness
Honor their apostolate,
Sing their glorious Epistles,
Laud their common martyr’s fate:
Peter, who for love of Jesus
Bore his death upon the cross,
And the headsman’s cruel sword-stroke
Brought for Paul his gain, not loss.
3. Let us now with endless glory
Praise the Father and the Son
And the everlasting Spirit,
Ever Three and ever One.
From the mouth of Paul and Peter,
From the choir of saints, ascend
Hymns of glory, praise, and blessing,
Sounding now and without end.

LITURGY OF THE WORD
LITURGIA DE LA PALABRA | LITURGIA SŁOWA

First Reading | Primera Lectura | Pierwsze czytanie

Acts 12:1–11
proclaimed in Tagalog

In those days, King Herod laid hands upon some members of the Church to harm them.
He had James, the brother of John, killed by the sword,
and when he saw that this was pleasing to the Jews
he proceeded to arrest Peter also.
–It was the feast of Unleavened Bread.–
He had him taken into custody and put in prison
under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each.
He intended to bring him before the people after Passover.
Peter thus was being kept in prison,
but prayer by the Church was fervently being made
to God on his behalf.
On the very night before Herod was to bring him to trial,
Peter, secured by double chains,
was sleeping between two soldiers,
while outside the door guards kept watch on the prison.
Suddenly the angel of the Lord stood by him
and a light shone in the cell.
He tapped Peter on the side and awakened him, saying,
“Get up quickly.”
The chains fell from his wrists.
The angel said to him, “Put on your belt and your sandals.”
He did so.
Then he said to him, “Put on your cloak and follow me.”
So he followed him out,
not realizing that what was happening through the angel was real;
he thought he was seeing a vision.
They passed the first guard, then the second,
and came to the iron gate leading out to the city,
which opened for them by itself.
They emerged and made their way down an alley,
and suddenly the angel left him.
Then Peter recovered his senses and said,

“Now I know for certain
that the Lord sent his angel
and rescued me from the hand of Herod
and from all that the Jewish people had been expecting.”

2 Timothy 4:6–8, 17–18
proclaimed in Spanish

I, Paul, am already being poured out like a libation,

and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have competed well; I have finished the race;
I have kept the faith.
From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me,
which the Lord, the just judge,
will award to me on that day, and not only to me,
but to all who have longed for his appearance.
The Lord stood by me and gave me strength,
so that through me the proclamation might be completed
and all the Gentiles might hear it.
And I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.
The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat
and will bring me safe to his heavenly Kingdom.
To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.

RITE OF ORDINATION
RITO DE ORDENACIÓN | RYT ORDYNACJI

Election of the Candidates | Elección de los Candidatos | Wybór kandydatów

The names of the ordinandi are called individually. Each one answers “Present” before
he comes forward, entering the sanctuary. Very Reverend John Kartje, the Rector and
President, in the name of the whole Church, asks the Cardinal to ordain these men, our
brothers, to the responsibility of the priesthood. He then testifies to their worthiness.
Cardinal: Relying on the help of the Lord God and our Savior
Jesus Christ, we choose these, our brothers, for the
Order of the Priesthood.
All: Thanks be to God.
All give their assent with applause.

Homily | Homilia | Homilia Cardinal Blase J. Cupich

Promise of the Elect | Promesa de los elegidos | Przysięga wybranych

After the homily, the elect alone rise and stand before the Cardinal, who questions them.
They are asked if they are willing:
• to discharge the office of Priesthood
• to preach the Gospel and teach the Catholic faith worthily and wisely
10
10
• to celebrate faithfully and reverently the mysteries of Christ, especially the sacrifice
of the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the glory of God and the
sanctification of the Christian people
• to implore God’s mercy upon the people by observing the command to pray without
ceasing
• to be united more closely to Christ the High Priest and to consecrate themselves to
God for the salvation of all.

Promise of Respect and Obedience | Promesa de Respeto y Obediencia |

Przysięga szacunku i posłuszeństwa
The elect now individually approach the Cardinal, and kneeling before him, promise him
their respect and obedience.

Litany of Supplication | Letanía de Súplica | Litania

The congregation stands and the Cardinal, with hands joined, invites them to pray:
Cardinal: My dear people, let us pray that God the all-powerful
Father will pour out abundantly the gifts of heaven on
these, his servants, whom he has chosen for the office
of Priest.
The assembly kneels when the Cardinal kneels. Please remain kneeling until the end
of the prayer following the Litany.

Laying on of Hands | Imposición de manos | Nałożenie rąk

In solemn silence, the Spirit is imparted by the Cardinal through the laying on of hands.
This sacred gesture confers the priestly office and its indelible character. The Cardinal,
along with his brother priests, asks Almighty God to grant the candidates the dignity of
the priesthood by a spirit of holiness thus enabling the priest to be a worthy helper of the
Cardinal in his Apostolic Ministry.
Please be seated after the Cardinal has laid his hands on the Ordinandi.
Please join in silent prayer during the Laying on of Hands.
