 Make an essay identifying the characteristics of the Global South in relation to
the social conditions of the Philippines.

Global South termed “third world” or the developing countries. It represents the
economically backward countries of Africa, India, China, Brazil, Mexico and agrarian-based,
dependent economically and politically on the Global North. It is the countries that suffering
from different kind of problems such as they experience turmoil, war, conflict, poverty,
anarchy, tyranny, lack well – developed domestic market economies based in entrepreneurship
and private enterprise, lack in the educational system, and do not have stable economy and
politics they are just relying on Global North.
The Philippines belong to the Global South. What other countries experienced also the
Philippines experiencing it especially; in terms of economic background, the Philippines have a

m
low economic growth that causes to borrowed money to the other country. Poverty is a

er as
common problem in the Philippines for not having a stable job because of lack of knowledge

co
and lack in education. Some parents struggling to sent their child in school because they do not

eH w
have enough money to support their education. And the government not put too much budget

o.
on education because the funds are often distributed to military development or economics.
rs e
ou urc
Also, the Philippines have low economic growth due to the works of governments.
Governments tend to commit corruption that causes various problems. Additionally, the
Philippines had a war or conflict with China. However, the two countries stay to cooperate.
o

It is important for poor countries to deal with the abovementioned problems. To be

aC s

specific, poor countries should be aware of the great importance of education in enhancing the
vi y re

overall development of a nation. There are a lot of changes in education recently and those
have to be applied because students from developing countries should be competitive and will
not be left behind in terms of knowledge and skills. Also, the Government should allow those
ed d

unemployed to lessen poverty. Also, developing countries strive hard to prosper the economy
ar stu

of their ruled country especially the Philippines. And governments should not commit
corruption.

HOMEWORK
Make 5 statements stating your thoughts/opinion why a country is rich or
poor.

 . Being rich or poor of the countries is depends on the government works or the
leaders of the country. The country will be poor if its commit corruption,
corruption is an illness that many countries suffer from. Corruption has a
devastating effect on the country. This is because corruption makes government
officials do something for their good/interest that is against the interest of their
country.
 Country is being poor because the countries do not have a strong local economy.
It is because a working economy is a basis for the financial well-being of a
country. When products are produced, refines, and traded, they created value,

m
and give work to people. If the products are consumed locally, then this creates

er as
an endless source of income and employment. If there is no such value creation,

co
eH w
then the country cannot become rich.
 Country is poor because of poor governance. It will affect the economic growth

o.
rs e
of the country. For example, it can cause higher unemployment, if it’s happened
ou urc
it will lead to poverty. That this poverty can cause death.
 A rich country has a good leader that has a good intention to his ruled country.
This will lead to an increase in economic growth. When an economy is rising, it is
o

a sign of development and success. Good economic growth implies a rise in

aC s

money supply, economic production, and productivity.

vi y re

 Poor countries have developed into rich countries through investing money in
physical infrastructure and developing human and technical infrastructure
through education and technology transfer programs. For example, if one
ed d

country has a good education it will lay the path for a better quality of life.
