would like to describe a
list of most faults on
JCM’s UBA-10 or UBA-
14 bill validators and de-
scribe how to repair them.
I’ll attempt a series of ar-
ticles that will deal with the
most common mechanical
failures, electronic faults
and then at the last articles
are devoted to bill and
ticket acceptance testing
procedure, calibration,
repair boards and making
the communication inter-
face for the PC.
Any defect will be described
in detail including symp-
toms and repair procedure.

tion of the Gear Inserted
into the Shaft of Trans-
port Motor

Repair of UBA10, UBA-14 BVs
Features:
This motor is in charge of
transporting bills through
the read zone and into the
stacker. The speed of the
motor is scanned by optical
sensor (encoder). The en-
coder consists of an infra-
red LED and
phototransistor. The beam
of LED heading for the
phototransistor is periodi-
cally interrupted during
rotation of the gear fitted to
the motor shaft. In the case
of an incorrect vertical
position of the gear, it leads
to irregular beam interrup-
tions. The UBA control
board (CPU board) then
evaluates the irregular
signal from encoder as a
failure of the transport
motor.

needs to move the bill ac-
cording to Figure 2.

functioning of the transport
drive is indicated by light-

the vertical position men-
tioned gear is described by

Topic 2:
Low Speed of Transport Motor

In the event that at the beginning of the

calibration UBA shows a message similar
to Figure 7 but the position of the gear is
fine, then the most common cause is a low
supply voltage for UBA or sometimes ex-
cessive braking of the stacker. During
calibration of the UBA, the stacker must
be inserted and the reading area must be
closed. UBA supply voltage is recomended Figure 3a
in range from 12.2V to 13V. Minimal sup-
ply current is 2A.

We will describe the cause of excessive

braking of stacker.

Excessive braking is most often caused by

a low level of accuracy in the production of
stacker parts.

Figure 8 shows a stacker which excessively

braking (Smiling stacker).

repair.

Removing of stacker defects is described

by Figures 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14.

In next article, it will be described how to

remove defect of position sensor that
senses the position of a rotating cylinder
(Anti-pullback mechanism) and failure of
the upper sensor board, which causes
malfunction of the solenoid for bill center-
