Topic: MOTHER AND CHILD HEALTH

1. What is the topic about?

A topic is about the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) a program that is
delivered through partnerships and builds on other community programs. It is a
proactive, preventative and strategic approach to promoting the good health and
development of on-reserve pregnant First National women and families with
infants and young children. The program aims to reach all pregnant women and
new parants, with long-term support for those families who require additional
services. A key element of the program is home visiting by nurses and family
visitors (experienced mothers in the community), who provide information,
support, and linkages to other services; integrating culture into care is a key
aspect of the program.

2. What information did you learn from the topic? Include new terms and
their meanings.

I've learned about common test during pregnancy like Amniocentesis - used to
fetal maturity and detect certain birth such a down syndrome, spinal bifida,
hemolytic disease of the newborn, sex and chromosomal disnormalities.

3. Which of the information is most significant to you? Why?

For me the most significant information is about the Risk Factor that will lead to
genetic disorders. Every human wants to have the best possible pregnancy.
However, for some, there are certain things that are just to hard to give up.
Caffeine is perhaps one of the hardest things to give up. Caffeine can increase a
woman risk of miscarriage.
