complete

● Tell your reader what to expect
● Research question
● Resist the urge to list definitions
● Justification for this analysis (why is this topic important)
● Your conclusion
○ What has been achieved
○ Notes on any limitations and any questions left unresolved

Body Section One

The IB states that the body of the essay should: (EE Guide p80)
● Be in the form of a reasoned argument
● The form of this argument will vary according to the subject but should include evidence that has
been discovered, where/how it has been discovered and how it supports the argument
Subheadings within the main body can help the reader follow the sequence of ideas and
arguments
● Speak to your supervisor about the conventions of writing within your subject area.
● Each body section should consist of a subsection of your overall analysis/argument and be made

Conclusion
The conclusion states what you have achieved, including notes of any limitations and any questions that
have not been resolved. Students should draw conclusions throughout the essay based on their findings,
however, it is important that there is a final, summative conclusion at the end. This conclusion must
relate to the research question posed.(EE Guide p81)
