ANALYSIS

1. What is the definition of diversity?

- Race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic class, physical
ability or traits, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political convictions are
only a few examples of human diversity. The condition of having numerous different elements
is also termed as diversity.

A classroom consisting of children from various backgrounds is an example of diversity.

2. Why is the diversity important in the present times?

- People can learn from one other as a result of diversity, which brings in fresh thoughts.
Problem-solving is improved when new ideas and views are brought in. Working in a diverse
group fosters communication and encourages creativity. Our society, too, recognizes the
benefits of diversity.

3. What are the two dimensions in Loden’s Wheel of Diversity? How can this model be used?

- The wheel is made up of primary, or core, and secondary dimensions of diversity, according to
her. The categories indicate the degree to which these differences have an impact on a person's
views, expectations, and life experience. This "Diversity Wheel," depicted as concentric circles,
can be utilized in a variety of ways to inspire people and organizations to reflect about values,
beliefs, and dimensions of identity.

4. Why are ability and disability considered another dimension of diversity?

- Everyone has advantages and disadvantages. Ability refers to a person's resources for
excelling in something, whereas disability refers to a person's limitations or obstacles. Ability
and disability diversity refers to a workforce's diversity of abilities and limitations. And also
because diversity encompasses the infinite dimensions of an individual's unique qualities,
experiences, and capacities, ability and disability are considered another level of diversity.
Diversity entails the acceptance and tolerance of differences, allowing for the celebration of
individuality.

5. How does diversity encourage innovation and problem solving?

- Better problem-solving: Multiple perspectives allow for more creative problem-solving. A

group with more diverse backgrounds is more likely to come up with innovative answers than a
group with similar backgrounds. Risk mitigation: Diverse teams with a variety of viewpoints are
more likely to spot potential hazards. The more they are likely to find inspiration in seemingly
unconnected locations, the more likely they are to take inspiration from them. More unlikely—
and innovative—ideas result from these concept combinations.

6. What can non-acceptance of diversity do in organization?

- A lack of diversity in the workplace might unintentionally create a hostile environment and
increase attrition. When employees don't feel like they belong, they're less inclined to stay.
Companies with a successful workplace diversity program and groups build programs and
groups that support diversity. The consequences of failing to manage diversity include a lack of
skills, competencies, and interests among employees, which will result in increased employee
turnover and a significant reduction in individual and organizational performance.
A. Circles of My Multicultural Self
3.

- I was so proud that my mom would label me as her independent daughter. She always tells
me how "masunurin" I am back when I was still a little kid . I was followed by my second
brother year after I was born . So, my parents would always prioritize him since he was younger.
My mom used to tell me how she feel secure when she just used to leave me some instructions
at the supermarkets to not go elsewhere and remain at the spot where she always left me to
buy some stuffs for our daily meals . She told me, I grew up having that mindset where she feels
confident leaving me alone on my own for she believes I can do it because I am her strong and
independent daughter. I didn't took that as a bad idea for I know she's still there to guide us
wherever we go. And I am glad for she never consider us as burdens.

4.

- Being misunderstood by others and unable to explain oneself is a highly distressing experience.
To the point where it will keep you awake all night and may even be the cause of some of your
traumas. When I'm having a disagreement with someone and I believe they have
misinterpreted me, I always try to defend my position and explain what happened and how I
truly feel. It hurts a lot when they describe you as a defensive person, as if I'm lying and
attempting to hide something because of the facts I try to provide while trying to clear up a
misunderstanding. It gives me a bad feeling that those remarks will sometimes come from the
mouths of people who you thought you didn't have to explain yourself to since you thought
they trusted and loved you. It's as if you're caught in the middle, because if you choose to
remain silent about their charges, they'll accuse you of being guilty, but if you try to defend
yourself, they'll accuse you of being defensive. It's as if you're caught in the middle of nothing
with nowhere to go.

5-6.

- I am a neutral person but I am not an ignorant citizen, daughter, student, and woman

APPLICATION

A. Read each paragraph and explain what you would do and why.

1. A parent asks to see you. He demands that you take out the crucifix inside your classroom
because the religion they belong to does not believe in the crucifix. He insists that his child is
being taught the wrong values. How will you respond to the parent?

- As a teacher, I will emphasize that my classroom contains a varied group of pupils. Some of
them may believe the same way she does, but not all of them act in the same way. If she is
concerned about what her child is being taught, I will make sure that my lessons include a wide
range of topics. To put it another way, I will not concentrate on a single set of values. I'll also
think about the values that others have been taught, and I'll try to understand their differences
and what they've been taught in their churches, homes, or anywhere else outside of my
classroom. I'll instill in them the value of respect and acknowledgement.

2. You plan a relay game for your class. While you are explaining the mechanics of the game,
one student raises her hand and says she can’t do a particular task in the game because she
has a prosthetic leg. How will you respond to this situation?

- As a teacher, it is my responsibility to ensure that my pupils enjoy and relate to activities

without experiencing emotions of inadequacy or unfairness. I'll do everything I can to come up
with some solutions that will allow all of my pupils to engage without being left out. I'll make
them feel like they're a part of the family, and that their condition doesn't make them useless
or different from the rest of us.

3. During a class election, Gina and Roy are running for the position of Class President. What
criteria will you base your decision on whom to vote for?

- To begin with, this position requires serious credentials. Being a classroom president is not a
joke for me, that anyone who believes it will improve their grades will simply take the turn. My
judgment will be based on whether or not someone is truly willing to take on the duties that
come with this position. I'll also need candid feedback from their peers on who they believe is
the best person for the job. I will promote those who do not make it to the second position,
vice president, since I believe there is still opportunity for progress and she will eventually reach
the top with patience and acceptance..

B. Create a poster (e-poster) that demonstrates the impact and importance of acknowledging,
respecting, and tolerating diversity.
