Jose Rizal used the power of writing to educate his fellow countrymen.

As a modern day hero, how will

you use the power of writing for the betterment of your country? What specific problems in our country
will you focus.

We all know Jose Rizal is our national hero, and he became a symbol of the Philippines during a
time when we were struggling and being colonized by other countries. And it was because of Jose Rizal
that he battled for our freedom in a quiet but effective manner. He used his literary abilities to enlighten
many Filipinos and to open their thoughts, and his greatest contribution is his poem A La Juventud
Filipina, which signifies that everyone can serve their country and seek the best for it, even if they are
young. As a result, Jose Rizal has been declared our national hero and has become the Philippine’s icon.

And, like our hero, I’d like to follow in his footsteps in terms of how I might contribute to or
address our challenges today. As with the challenge of declaring fair all of the rights of every Filipino,
based on the law, because we live in a democratic country, we all have the freedom to make our own
decisions. However, in today’s circumstances, not everyone can achieve democracy because some
politicians constantly exploit their authority to manipulate others. I’ll employ the power of words and
writing to inspire them to realize that they don’t have to be afraid of those who constantly denigrate
them; instead, they must fight not physically, but in a way that everyone will hear. This is the time for us
to achieve our independence, so we must fight for it now.
