1. What is power?

Power is intangible, and it can’t distinguish by our naked eye. However, power is
everywhere we just can’t see it but we have this presence of mind that power is there.
Power is the ability to compel or control others to get or do what you want, without
boundaries, resistance and limits. Power is vital in society because it serves as the
foundation for politics and society. Furthermore, power has the capacity to influence,
control, and manipulate individual behavior.

2. What is the difference between power as decision-making, power as agenda-setting,

and power as preference-shaping?

Power as Decision making influence ones decision because of their authority. The one-
dimensional perspective of power is primarily concerned with behavior and decision
making.

Power (Agenda setting) has the capability of preventing decisions from being made. This
approach varies from the 'decision making' face in that it adopts an elitist rather than a
pluralist view. The second face emphasizes that obstacles to the public airing of policy
debates and choices are constructed and perpetuated by a specific individual or group
with the capacity to do so. Large or private corporations (mass media) are examples of
such, as they may wield influence in a variety of ways. Mass media has a power to cover
crucial issue and air different conflicts in order to prevent it from public argumentation or
discussion and may influence individuals decision.

Preference shaping defines power as the ability to influence another person by altering
and changing what they believe, need, or want.

In a political sense, this might be accomplished through the use of propaganda and
speeches that are purposefully intended to mold one's perspective. The third stage
examines both present difficulties and potential future issues. This stage differs from the
previous two faces in that the 'thought control' stage was created to emphasize that power
may construct an agenda to favor the powerful or function inside conflict in decision
making. However, it is also used to alter an individual's desires.
