Division Sentence
Write the division sentence for the following.

Divide these balloons into equal groups of 3.

Division Sentence-
Total objects ÷ Number of objects in each group = Total number of groups

Here, Total objects (balloons) = 15

No. of objects in each group = 3
So, division sentence will be-
15 ÷ 3 = 5

Here, we can clearly see that 5 groups of 3 balloons each are formed in total.
v

Divide these pencils into equal group of 7

Total pencils = 28
Pencils in each group = 7
No. of groups formed will be = ?
Division sentence-

28 ÷ 7 = 4
Here, we can clearly see that 4 groups of 7 pencils each are formed in total.

Write the missing numbers.

a) 4 x 3= 12 12 ÷ 3 = 4 12 ÷ 4 = 3
b) 7 x 4 = 28 28 ÷ 4 = 7 28 ÷ 7 = 4

The number to be divided is called the dividend.
The number by which we divide is called the divisor.
The number (answer) we get after division is called the
quotient.
The number that remains after division is called the
remainder.

The remainder is always less than the divisor.

Whenever the remainder is zero, we say that the dividend is
exactly
divisible by the divisor.
Properties of Division

Division by 1- When a number is divided by 1, the quotient is the

number itself.
Eg- 7 ÷ 1 = 7

Division by Number Itself- When a number is divided by itself, it

always gives the quotient as 1.
Eg- 9 ÷ 9 = 1

Division by Zero- A number cannot be divided by 0.

Dividing 0 by a Number- When 0 is divided by a number, it always

gives 0 as quotient.
Eg- 0 ÷ 9 = 0

c.) 0 ÷ 7 = Not possible F 0÷7=0
d.) 1 ÷ 1 = 1 T
e.) 20 ÷ 20 = 0 F 20 ÷ 20 = 1
