Define the given statistical terms below:

Statistics
-the collection and interpretation of data
Variable
- any characteristics, number, or quantity that can be measured or counted.
Random Variable
-variable that is subject to random variations so that it can take on multiple
different values, each with an associated probability.
Population
-a collections of elements of interest
Sample
-a subset of a population
Parameter
-numbers that summarize data for an entire population
Descriptive Statistics
-the statistics that deal with taking a sample and analyzing that sample to make
judgements or claims about a population
Inferential Statistics
- the statistics that using data from sample and then making inferences about the
larger population from which the sample is drawn.
Qualitative Variables
- a variable that isn't numerical and describes data that fits into categories.
Quantitative Variables
-Variables whose values result from counting or measuring something.
Discrete Variables
-the variables that whose value is obtained by counting
Continuous Variables
-variable that whose value is obtaining by counting
Nominal Level
a type of data that is used to label variables without providing any quantitative
value
Ordinal Level
Variables with an inherent rank or order
Interval Level
a quantitative measurement scale where there is order, the difference between the
two variables is meaningful and equal, and the presence of zero is arbitrary.
Ratio Level
Variables with all properties of an interval plus an absolute, no arbitrary zero point
Random Sampling
-the part of sampling that each member is chosen using a method that gives
everyone an equally chance of being selected
Systematic Sampling
-a type of probability sampling method in which sample members from a larger
population are selected according to a random starting point but with a fixed,
periodic interval.
Convenience Sampling
a method of collecting samples by taking samples that are conveniently located
around a location or Internet service.
Stratified Sampling
stratified sampling is a method of sampling from a population which can
be partitioned into subpopulations.
Cluster Sampling
a probability sampling technique where researchers divide the population into
multiple groups (clusters) for research.
