When talking about Philippines, its culture and history, first thing that comes in mind is

our Philippine flag. Like our flag, our culture has undergone changes, adapted to different racial

influences but there are still somethings that were instilled in our minds from our very own

ancestors and those what makes us who we are now. Philippine culture is said to be the fusion of

varying cultural impacts from people trying to conquer our rich country, from having diverse

Asian background to having a strong inclination towards Western tradition. The Philippine flag
is the icon of the challenges Filipinos underwent during its time of hardships and sacrifices for

the freedom of our nation. It has become the symbol of the Philippine sovereignty and its people.

Flags aren’t just pieces of cloth sewn together with decorative purposes, these have been

one of the symbols of national expressions, and independence of a country. It is made to display

the success of the people and its country. A widespread sign of autonomy and liberation. Flags

hold powerful meaning as it symbolizes a country’s ideals, movements, and aspirations. Our flag

now holds the different symbolisms of the different values and culture of the Filipinos. The sun

in the flag represents the liberty of Filipinos. We have been seeking freedom for hundreds of

years from every dominating country that ever wanted the riches of our nation. We went through

many hardships to achieve independence, and one way to celebrate it is to wave our flag of

liberty. The flag carries the symbol of equality. Citizens of this nation wanted to be treated

equally as those people who have been discriminating us. As we triumph all over the world with

our intellect and talent, we have rising our flags together with our rights to show who we are. It

is part of our culture to show off the hidden gems of country, but not for them to exploit.

Filipinos have dreams and it is envisioned in their minds the achievement of peace, truth and

justice in our country. We want to be proud of it as we weaved the color blue on our flag.

But one thing that our flag truly portray is the patriotism and valor or our people. It

embodies the adversity and devotion of the Filipinos. It symbolizes the subversive groups who

rose up against its conquerors. It is part of the Philippine culture to stand for its rights and

beliefs. The flag represents the endeavors and sacrifices of our heroes who accepted the fight for

liberty and independence. The Philippine flag became the path for the unity of Filipinos. It

incorporated the ambitions and passions of its people.

The Philippine flag reflects what Filipinos value the most, their personality, and the

things that makes who they are today. Filipinos stood proud as they wave the flag representing

their own culture. It shows their pride and passion, and their unyielding nationalism. The flag

simply expresses Filipino honor and culture, and became something universally understood

regardless of language or culture.
