Bangladesh stall opens at Frankfurt

Book Fair
State minister for cultural affairs KM Khalid inaugurated Bangladesh stall at the 73rd Frankfurt Book Fair on
Wednesday, said a press release.
KM Khalid inaugurated the stall at Bangladesh time 4:00pm. The book fair could not be held last year due to
the Covid situation.

KM Khalid said that Bangladesh’s participation in Frankfurt Book Fair is a matter of pride when the country is
also celebrating the golden jubilee of its independence and the birth centenary of the country’s founding
president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
‘The book fair was not held last year due to the Covid situation and Bangladesh has successfully participated
in this year’s fair. Such participation can play a role in uplifting the country’s image abroad,’ said KM Khalid.
Under the leadership of the cultural affairs ministry, the National Book Centre is participating in the Frankfurt
Book Fair with more than 4,000 selected books written by renowned Bangladeshi authors on history, heritage,
culture, liberation war, life and work of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and prime
minister Sheikh Hasina.
Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute director general Debasish Sarker, Ekushey Padak-winning poet
Nazmun Nesa Peyari, cultural affairs additional secretary Ashim Kumar Dey and National Book Centre
director Minar Monsur, among others, were present at the inaugural ceremony of Bangladesh stall.
The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world’s largest trade fair for books, based both on the number of publishing
companies represented, and the number of visitors. It is considered to be the most important book fair in the
world for international deals and trading.
This year’s book fair, which began on October 20, will end on October 24.
