Question.

 Write a fire assessment outbreak at Thika School of medical and health

sciences.
Risk assessment is the identification of hazards that could negatively impact an
organization's ability to conduct business. Where fire risk assessment is a process where an
organization look at which activities are being done at workplace that could cause harm to
people from fire or assets.
It helps determine the chances of a fire occurring, the dangers from fire that the
workplace poses for the people who use it, identify all the fire hazards and risks in a premises.
Then one will then be able to decide whether the risks identified are acceptable or whether you
need to take steps to reduce or control them. Risk assessment is be carried out by someone who
has had sufficient skills and knowledge of the premises. I believe I have skill to do so.
There are five steps used in risk assessment. I my case I used the steps based on our
institution and the nature of buildings, design, terrain and scope of Thika School of medical and
health sciences. Below are the steps used:

Step 1 - Identify people at risk

 This is where you identify how is at risk of fire and why. Here we found that student and
staff are the most vulnerable when it comes to fire risk assessment, Where they are a
large number in each given time and this put them at risk in case of emergency such a
few escape routes

Step 2 - Identify fire hazards

 I identified all potential fuel sources, other fire accelerants and potential ignition sources
such as the chemicals found in the medical lab, fuel used to cook for staff, poor electric
maintenance and connections in the colloidal heading to the main gate. Where some of
the fire hazard in the institution.
 Step 3 - Evaluate the risk

This is where we tested the already installed fire prevention measure installed in the school
such an exit sing, fire extinguishers and fire assembly point, ask if fire drills carried out
regularly, action and steps taken to reduce sources that may fuel a fire, evaluated the risk
to persons in the premises from fire, education offered to staff on how to reduce ignition
which may cause a fire

Other parts we looked at where:

Fire Extinguishers

Extinguishers where not visible or had indicated by signs and not all which had
been refilled.

Escape Routes

Almost all collides where small ad with wooden doors that can fuel fire.

Signs

Escape routes and exits not indicated by appropriate

Tests and maintenance

No there a regular check on all the fire-fighting equipment

Step 4 - Record your findings

Our finding where that if fire was to occur there would be catastrophic loss of life and
properties, due to poor maintenance and poor design physical such as wooden doors.

Step 5 - Review and revise

Here are some on the conclusion and review that I come up with and can be used to stop the state
of high risk fire occurrence.

1, well labeled exit routes all over the institution, to direct people to safety in case of fire
outbreak.
2. Public awareness and education on how to prevent fire and how to react in case of fire
outbreak since almost 90% of student I interview knew any type and class of fire.

3. Were refilled extinguishers and increase the number of fire pipe, fire blankets, ready and
flowing water and lastly increased fire hydrant numbers.

4. Relocation of the fire assemble point to as safe distant which should be a far from the
buildings as twice their height.

5. Installation of fire alarm system, fire and smoke sensors all over the institution.

In conclusion I found that a lot of work need to be done and try to meet the need quality to
prevent fire outbreak.
