Preliminary Activities

1. Greetings

Good afternoon, class! Good afternoon, sir!

2. Prayer

Before we start our class,__________ will lead our (The students will stand up and pray)
prayer.

3. Checking of Attendance

May I ask the class monitor, who is absent

today? None, Sir!

A. Reviewing of Previous Lesson

Before we start our lesson for today, lets have

some recap on what we studied yesterday.

What was our lesson last meeting?

Subtraction of Signed numbers, Sir
Thats Correct!

What is the rule in subtracting signed numbers?

To subtract signed numbers, change the sign of the
Excellent! subtrahend then proceed to addition.

I will show you some flashcards and give the

difference of the given numbers.

6 – 3? Positive 3

(-6) – 3? Negative 9

6 – (-3)? Positive 9

(-6) – (-3)? Negative 3

IV. Procedures
B. Establishing a Purpose

Let’s start our lesson with a game!

Do you know how to play charades? Yes sir!

First I will divide you into two groups, then

you will assign someone to act the words that will be
given to him/her. And then the other groupmates will
guess the word.

So the first group that will get the right

answer will be given a price.

I will give each group 3 minutes to guess the

words.

Are you ready? Yes, sir!

Lets start with Group 1. (the group will start guessing)

Thank You!

Next Group 2. (the group will start guessing)

Thank You!

C. Presenting new Lesson

What are the words you have guessed? Multiplication

Positive numbers
Negative numbers
fractions

Those words have something to do with our

lesson for today because our lesson for today is
Multiplication of Signed Numbers.

At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:

a. State the rules for multiplication of signed
numbers.
b. Apply the rules of multiplying signed numbers
using whole numbers and fractions.
c. Apply the concept of signed numbers in real life.

Are you ready to listen? Yes, sir!

D. Discussing New Concept and Practicing New skills #1

Like in Subtraction of Signed Numbers, we also have rules
to follow in multiplying signed numbers.

In multiplying integers, when two positive numbers are

multiplied their product is positive.
For example:
5x2

What will be the product? 10

Very Good!

Also, when we are multiplying two negative numbers, their

product is also positive.
For example:
(-5) x (-2)

What is our product? 10

Thats right!

So as you can see, their products are both positive

10, therefore we can conclude that when we are multiplying
two numbers with the same sign, their product is always
positive.

What about when we are multiplying opposite signs?

What will be the product? Negative, sir

Thats right, the second rule states that when we are

multiplying two numbers with different signs, their product is
negative.
For Example:
5 x (-2) Negative 10, sir
What is our product?
Very Good!

E. Discussing New Concept and Practicing New skills

#2

Now that you truely understood how to multiply

whole numbers, lets expand your knowledge on this operation
by multiplying fractions.

Doyou know how to multiply fraction? Yes, sir!

How are we going to multiply fractions? To multiply fractions, just multiply the numerator by
the numerator and the denominator by the
denominator.
Very Good!

What is the product of: 2

2 1 15
x
5 3

What if we are multiplying two negative fractions? Positive, Sir!

What do you think the product is?

How can you say so? According to the rule in multiplying signed numbers,
when you multiply two numbers with the same signs,
their product is positive.

That’s right!

1 2 2
Lets have some example, multiply - to -
3 5 15

Very Good!
No, sir!
Do you need more examples?

Ok, what if we are going to multiply two fractions Also the rule of multiplication of signed numbers, when
with different signs? we are multiplying two number with different signs,
their product is negative.
3 1 3
Ok,lets try if you are correct, multiply , to - -
4 4 16

Very good!
None, Sir!
Do you have any questions?

F. Developing Mastery

Now that you understood our lesson, lets have an

activity.
I prepared a word puzzle for you!
Find the product of the following numbers, the
product of each number has an equivalent letter, you are
going to form a word from the answers you’ve got.

1. (-3)(-7) 1. 21= O
2. (4)(15) 2. 60= P
3. (-3)(8) 3. -24= J
1 3 −3
4. =S
4. x
3 15 45
−6 1 6
5. =E
5.
8 3
x 24

1
1 1 6. =H
6. - x- 20
4 5
J K L M E

R O S P

I G H

6
J = -24 R = -21 E=
24
K = 24 O = 21 I = -60
3 7
L = 3/20 S= - G =-
45 24
M = 30 P = 60 H = 1/20 JOSEPH

What is the word you formed?

That’s Great!

G. Practical Application in Real Life

How can we apply the concepts of our For exampleI will buy egg in the store, if one egg is 5 pesos
lesson in our daily living? and I bought 5 eggs then I will multiply the price to the
number of eggs I bought. It will be 5 x 5, and the product is
25 the total price that I will pay.

Very Well Said!

H. Generalization

Lets sum up our lesson for today.

What are the rules in multiplying signed numbers? First rule is when two numbers have the same sign, their
product is positive.

The second rule is when you multiply two numbers with

different signs their product is negative.

Very Good! Thank You!

I. Evaluating Learning

Bring out one half sheet of paper. We will have a

quiz to evaluate what you had learned.

Multiply the following expressions.

1. 40 x 15
2. 15 x 5
3. -3 x 7
4. -4 x -4
5. -16 x 4
3 5
6. x
4 7

7. x
3 7

8. - x1
8
3 −1
9. - x
5 5
12 1
10. x
13 3
Answer Key

1. 600
2. 75
3. -21
4. 16
5. -64
6. 15/28
7. 3/21
8. -7/8
9. 3/25
10. 12/39

J. Additional Activity

Assignment: Answer the following questions.

1. If 3 is one factor of -45, what is the other factor?

2. If -12 is one factor of -180, what is the other
factor?
3. Add the product of -15 and 3 to the product of 7
and -3.
4. Add 45 to the product of -18 and 3
5. Multiply the sum of -16 and -7 by the difference
found by subtracting -4 from 8.
