A Detailed Lesson Plan

MATHEMATICS 7
CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sets and the real numbers.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner is able to formulate challenging situations involving sets and real numbers
and solve these in a variety of strategies.
LEARNING COMPETENCY (M7NS-Ia-2)
The learner illustrates the union and intersection of sets and the difference of two sets.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners are able to:
1. Illustrates the union and intersection of sets.
2. Perform the set operations:
a. Union of sets
b. Intersection of sets
3. Appreciate the importance of union and intersection of sets and the difference
of two sets by relating it in real-life situations.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: UNION AND INTERSECTION OF SETS

III.PROCEDURE
A. DAILY ROUTINE
1. Prayer
-Everybody stand up. Can -Almighty Father, we praise and thank you
someone please lead the prayer? for this day. Watch over us as we go about
our works and studies. Help us in every way
so that
we may become children you want us to be.
Amen
2. Keeping the Classroom in
Order
-Good morning class!
-Before taking your seats, kindly -Good morning Ma’am!
arrange your chair and pick up
those pieces of paper under your
chairs.

3. Checking of Attendance
-Before we begin our lesson, let’s
have first the checking of
attendance. Is there any absent -None, Ma’am!
today?
-Very good! It is nice to see that
you are all present. I hope that
you can maintain that attendance
until our last meeting!

4. Checking of Assignment
- Yesterday, I gave you an
assignment. Right?
- Please pass it forward! -Yes Ma’am!

5. Review of the Previous Lesson -(students will pass their papers forward)
-Yesterday, we discussed about
sets. Right?
-Yes Ma’am!
-Before we proceed to our next
lesson, let us first have a short
review of what we discussed -Ma’am, A set is a well-defined group of
yesterday. Who among you can objects, called elements that share a common
still remember “what is a set?”. characteristic.

-That’s right!

-How about an example of a set?

-Ok! Correct! - Ma’am, sets of school supplies, sets of

books, and sets of subjects.
-What about the methods of
naming the elements of a sets?
-Ma’am the two methods of naming the
elements of a set are the listing and roster
method and the rule method
For example:
Listing or Roster Method:
E = {0, 2, 4, 6, 8, ....}
O = {1, 3, 5, 7, ...}
Rule Method:
E = {2x | x is a whole number}
-Very Good! O = {2x+1 | x is a whole number}
-We also discussed about Venn
diagrams which represents
relationship between sets.
