Activity 2: Video Analysis

1.What happened during the nucleosynthesis era?

IN PHYSICAL COSMOLOGY,BIG BANG NUCLEOSYNTHESIS (OR PRIMORDIAL NUCLEOSYNTHESIS) REFERS TO THE PRODUCTION OF NUCLEI OTHER
THAN H-1, THE NORMAL, LIGHT HYDROGEN,DURING THE EARLY PHASES OF THE UNIVERSE,SHORTLY AFTER THE BIG BANG.BIG BANG
NUCLEOSYNTESIS BEGINS ABOUT ONE MINUTE AFTER THE BIG BANG,WHEN THE UNIVERSE HAS COOLED ENOUGH TO FORM STABLE PROTONS
AND NEUTRONS,AFTER BARYOGENESIS.FROM SIMPLE THERMODYNAMICAL ARGUMENTS,ONE CAN CALULATE THE FRACTION OF PROTONS AND
NEUTRONS BASED ON THE TEMPERATURE AT THIS POINT.
2. What happened before the formation of the elementary particles?
ABOUT 13.7 BILLION YEARS AGO,THE TINY SINGULARITY VIOLENTLY EXPLODED AND FROM THIS EXPLOSION THAT ALL MATTER,SPACE,ENERGY
AND TIME WHERE CREATED

3.How is the cosmic microwave background radiation formed?

COSMIC MICROWAVE BACKGROUND(CMB)RADIATION ARE MICROWAVES WITH WAVELENGHTS OF ABOUT 7CM THAT ARE PRESENT IN
SPACE.CMB RADIATION IS ALSO BELIVED TO BE THE THERMAL ENERGY RELEASED WHEN THE IONIZED GASES BECAME NEUTRAL PARTICES AS
THE EARLY UNIVERSE COOLED DOWN.THIS RADIATION SERVED LIKE A “LEFTOVER” WHEN THE UNIVERSE WAS FORMED.

‘COZ WE KNOW WE’RE DESERVING..
Activity 5: Flowchart Making
Watch the video by Stephen Hawking on this link https://youtu.be/Uhy1fucSRQI
After which, list all the ideas stated in the video in the activity notebook.
1.How is the sun formed?
THE SUN AND THE REST OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM FORMED FROM A GIANT,ROTATING CLOUD OF GAS AND DUST CALLED A SOLAR NEBULA ABOUT
4.5 BILLION YEARS AGO.
2.How are the planets formed in the solar system?
PLANETS FORM FROM PARTICLES IN A DISK OF GAS AND DUST,COLLIDING AND STICKING TOGETHER AS THEY ORBIT THE STAR.THE PLANETS
NEAREST TO THE STAR TEND TO BE ROCKIER BECAUSE THE STAR’S WIND BLOWS AWAY THEIR GASES AND BECAUSE THEY ARE MADE OF
HEAVIER MATERIALS ATTRACTED BY THE STAR’S GRAVITY.

Activity 8: Reflective Essay Writing

“When I looked up and saw the earth coming up on this very stark, beat up lunar horizon, an earth that was the only color that we could see, a
very fragile looking earth, a very delicate looking earth, I was immediately almost overcome by the thought that here we came all this way to the
moon, and yet the most significant thing we’re seeing is our own home planet, the Earth.”

Earth can sometimes feel like the last place you’d want to be. Indeed, a number of explorers have devised inventive ways to move
civilization off this planet. It’s no surprise: The promise of a better life in the mysterious beyond can be seductive. But the fact is the more we learn
about out there the more we realize how special it is here. We don’t know of any that offers the comforts of Earthly living – and many would be
downright nightmares.

Earth is where all of us live in. Earth is the 3 rd Planet from the sun, as well as the 5 th largest planet in our solar system. As far as humans
know Earth is unique in the Solar System as being the only planet which is able to support life in all its forms: from basic micro-organisms to highly
sophisticated human beings. There are many reasons why this happens.

Earth is the only planet known to humans where life can exist. Every aspect of earth has been developed to support life. At the same time
external forces such as the sun assists life in a great way as well. All these pieces of earth come together and join to make a planet that can sustain
life. So it is our duty to make sure Earth stays healthy for many years to come.
