THIS DAY IN HISTORY...

Double Ten Day is the celebration of the Wuchang Uprising.

The uprising brought an end to dynasty rule in China.

On October 10, 1911, an anti-Qing revolution began. After

two months of unrest, the Republic of China was established
on January 1, 1912. Its first provisional president was Sun
Yat-sen.

Today, Double Ten Day is the official national day of the

Republic of China, and is celebrated as a bank holiday in
Taiwan.

Sun Yat-sen is considered the founding father of the

Republic of China (ROC), now commonly referred to as
Taiwan.
