A. Prophase D. Metaphase G. Chromatid J. Spindle fiber
B. Interphase E. Anaphase H. Cytokinesis K. Cell plate
C. Telophase F. Centromere I. Mitosis

C. Telophase 18. What phase are daughter cells in as a result of mitosis?

E. Anaphase 19. During what phase of mitosis do centromeres divide and the chromosomes move toward their
respective poles?

A. Prophase 20. What is the phase where chromatin condenses to form chromosomes?

F. Centromere 21. What is the name of the structure that connects the two chromatids?

G. Chromatid 22. In a chromosome pair connected by a centromere, what is each individual chromosome called?
H. Cytokinesis and I. Mitosis 23. What are the two parts of cell division?

J. Spindle fiber 24. What structure forms in prophase along which the chromosomes move?

C. Telophase 25. Which phase of mitosis is the last phase that chromatids are together?

B. Interphase 26. Which phase of the cell cycle is characterized by a non-dividing cell?

J. Spindle fiber 27. What structure is produced when protein fibers radiate from centrioles?

K. Cell plate 28. What forms across the center of a cell near the end of telophase?

B. Interphase 29. The period of cell growth and development between mitotic divisions?

E. Anaphase 30. What is the phase where cytokinesis occurs?

The diagram below shows six cells in various phases of the cell cycle. Note the cells are not arranged in the
order in which the cell cycle occurs. Use the diagram to answer questions 1-7.

Phorophase
____________________1. Cells A & F show an early and a late stage of the same phase of the cell
cycle. What phase is it?
Cell c
____________________2. Which cell is in metaphase?
Cell A
____________________3. Which cell is in the first phase of M phase (mitosis)?
Centriole
____________________4. In cell A, what structure is labeled X?
D, A, F, C, E, B
____________________5. List the diagrams in order from first to last in the cell cycle.
PLANT CELLS
____________________6. Are the cells depicted plant or animal cells?
a. Explain your answer.
The cell in the picture have centriole and centrosome while in plant cell,it
doesn’t have any centriole and centrosome.
b. If it were the other type of cell what would be different in the diagrams?
Aster is not formed.
Interphase, cell D
____________________7. What is the longest phase of the cell cycle?

8. Why is mitosis important?

It is important because it allows the number of cells to multiply.
9. Predict what would happen if an individual had faulty spindle fibers.
That will be caused a lot of problem to us because if we have faulty spindle fibers , spindle fibers can’t
function properly.

10. Predict what would happen if cytokinesis was skipped.

The cell wouldn’t function properly because cell will have too many chromosomes and it can’t handle.
11. What is the difference between cell plate and cleavage furrow?
Cell plate is from plant cell, It is used to separate the two new cells while the cleavage furrow is from animal
cell which is used to split the two new cells.

12. Draw a cell and label the: nucleus, centrioles, spindle fibers, pole of cell, equator of cell
(Consider Cell during cell division)
Animal Cell
Plant Cell
Activity 6
1. Explain why cells do not just continue to grow larger as organisms grow larger. Why do cells
divide?
It do not just continue to grow larger as oraganism grow larger because if the cell is too
large, it will have trouble moving enough nutrients and waste across the cell membrane.
It divides because three main reasons such as; growth, repair, and reproduction.
2. In which phase does a cell spend most of its life? What happens
during this phase?
It is the interphase, during this phase, it prepares for cell division.
3. What is cancer? What may cause cancer to occur?
Cancer is a disease. Cancer occur when cells divide uncontrobolly.
