Welcome to the English 9 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Examining sample texts

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from public
institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set
by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in
schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You also need
to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their own learning.
Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included
in the module.
Welcome to the English 9 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Examining sample texts
representative of each type!
Writing stimulates ideas and helps the author make mental connections that would not have
otherwise occurred to them. In order for students to take full advantage of these various purposes,
they must learn various text types. The types or the characteristics of a text are of the utmost
importance for any work of summarization on it. It is easier to select the main ideas from
certain types of texts when you are familiar with its type.
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for guided and
independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the contents of
the learning resource while being an active learner.
This module will assist you in encouraging the learners to examine sample texts
representative of each type.
Teaching text types is different from assigning text types. If students are to use
text types to write for different purposes and audience, they need to understand how each
text type works.
The structures, features, and uses for each text type needs to be modeled via
mentor texts where students will need to practice through guided writing tasks,
collaborative tasks and then independently with frequent feedback from peers and
teachers.

What is It
1. The Introduction
The beginning, otherwise known as the introduction, is your opportunity to present
your thesis statement and grab the attention of the reader. Your thesis statement must
be one sentence, making it very clear what the reader will be informed about.
When you woke up this morning, did you think today would be the day you
save a life? In fact, it's quite easy to save a life and it only takes a little bit of your
time. You don't even need to be a paramedic or fire-fighter. All you have to do is
set aside approximately one hour to donate blood. This essay will explore how to
donate blood, whom it benefits, and how often you can contribute to these life-
saving measures.
2. The Body
The middle, otherwise known as the body, is your opportunity to expound upon
the thesis statement and grab the attention of the audience with solid facts, statistics,
statements, and other supporting details.
The body will be several paragraphs long, comprising the bulk of the essay. This is
where you'll provide further details about the main idea. Be sure you delve deeply into
every area previously outlined in the introduction.
3. The Conclusion
The end, otherwise known as the conclusion, is your opportunity to summarize the
essay in a paragraph or two. It should spur the reader to want to learn more about the
topic. Be sure to reiterate the thesis statement clearly. In your introduction, you may
have laid out what would be covered in the essay. Offer a sentence or two reiterating
what was learned about those topic areas.
After that, offer up a few closing remarks that gloss over the most important
elements. End on a high note, encouraging your readers to learn more or contemplate
the most important elements of your essay. You may even pose a rhetorical question.
Sample Conclusion:
The process of donating blood is decidedly simple. Many folks carry out the process
while reading a chapter from a new book or watching an episode of their favorite TV
show. Indeed, the infinitesimal amount of time it takes to donate blood can transfer
into a lifetime of happiness for the recipient. Remember to bring juice or something
sugary to keep your glucose levels high at the end of the procedure. Then, hold your
head up high, knowing there's a life out there that's about to be saved by you.

Essay on Education
By Lisa Barlow
Education plays a vital role in shaping successful people. It gives us the opportunity
to become a productive member of a civilized society by acquiring all the necessary skills.
We learn how to meet challenges and overcome obstacles. We learn how to become an
integrated personality and maintain the perpetuation of our culture. People learn basic
norms, rules, regulations, and values of society through education. Moreover, high quality
education enables us to lead a successful life, enhances our intelligence, skills, knowledge,
and brings positive changes in our life.
Education lays the foundation stone for our future. An illiterate person can find it
very difficult to cope with some aspects of life. Education expands our vision and creates
awareness. It helps us develop a disciplined life and provides us with better earning
opportunities. It enables us to know the world beyond our own surroundings. Education is
also a prerequisite of the prosperity and modernization of any country.
Education is definitely important in one`s life. A gift of knowledge can bring us to the
top of our dreams. It leads us to the right path and gives us a chance to have a wonderful
life. Education makes people capable of doing new interesting things that can go a long
way to improving human living conditions and standards. Our whole life is the process of
learning and gaining new useful knowledge. We should always remember that getting a
good education is imperative in today`s society as it is a foundation of our successful future.
Our education is really worth investment. Only if you believe and work hard you can
achieve anything.

This year Mental Health Awareness week is a little different in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.
People with pre-existing mental health conditions and those without them are feeling the strains
associated with the crisis. A new study has now highlighted the need to focus on the long-term
mental health impacts for COVID-19 survivors.
The study looks at severe cases in which individuals have been treated in hospital, and the
findings suggest that delirium (a mental state characterized by changes in consciousness,
behavioral disturbance, and sometimes hallucinations) may be common in hospitalized patients in
the acute stages of SARS, MERS, and COVID-19 illness.
However, according to the researchers, most people admitted to hospital with severe COVID-19
should recover without experiencing mental illness if infection with SARS-CoV-2 follows a similar
course to the coronavirus epidemics of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2002 and
Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in 2012.
The study is the first systematic review and meta-analysis looking at the psychiatric
consequences of coronavirus infections in over 3,550 patients hospitalized with SARS, MERS,
and COVID-19, and has been published in The Lancet Psychiatry journal.
