3. Problems of Dhaka city and possible solution.

Lack of proper strategy for land development in residential areas, ineffective

implementation, poor supervision and monitoring system are continuously
creating problems for the citizens of Dhaka. People face various problems in
Dhaka city. We should identify the problems and find possible solutions.
The problems of Dhaka city and their possible solutions are discussed
below:

Population problem: Over population is the main problem in Dhaka city.

As Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh, different types of people gather here
from different places of our country. As a result city people are facing
different problems.
To solve the problem, different offices, factories, universities, and other
important institutions should be relocated outside Dhaka.

Accommodation problem: Population is increasing day by day in the city

but accommodation is not increasing at the same rate. As a result
accommodation problem is increasing day by day in the city.
To solve the problem, necessary steps should be taken to control population
growth rate and build up multi-storied buildings in the slams.

Security problem: Another major problem in Dhaka city is the security

problem. Due to overpopulation, the government cannot provide adequate
security to the city dwellers.
To solve the problem, the security system needs to be improved by forming
a strong security force.

Water crisis: One of the biggest problems in Dhaka city is water crisis.
Occasionally there are severe water crises in different parts of the city. As a
result, the residents of the city face difficulties in collecting pure water.
To solve the problem, proper distribution of water should be ensured
through proper measures and water wastage should be controlled.

Gas crisis: In Dhaka city, residents suffer from the gas crisis. In some areas,
residents suffer from the gas crisis for months. This crisis began with the
increase of winter intensity.
To solve the problem, wastage of gas should be controlled through taking
proper steps.

Traffic jam: Traffic jam is an acute problem in Dhaka city. Everyday city
people face this problem. It kills valuable time of city people.
To solve the problem, government should build up metro-rail, over bridge,
flyover and underground roadway.

Pollution problem: Pollution is another major problem in Dhaka city. Mills,

factories and vehicles create air pollution and sound pollution in the city.
To solve the problem, all mills-factories should be transfered from Dhaka
city and hard rules should be adopted against pollution.

Insects’ problem: Different types of insects contain in Dhaka city. Such as-
mosquito, mouse, fly, bug, ant, cockroach etc. Every year many people are
infected with malaria, dengue and chikungunya by mosquito bites.
To solve the problem, city dwellers should keep their surroundings clean and
City Corporation should use medicine regularly for removing insects.

Garbage problem: The townspeople make a lot of garbage and they put it
in different places. Garbage causes bad odors and this odor causes a variety
of diseases every day.
To solve the problem, we should throw garbage in a certain place and the
government should place dustbins according to the needs of the people of
the city.

Sanitation problem: Public toilets are not enough in the city. So city people
are bound to do their natural works beside the roads or any public place.
To solve the problem, government should ensure sanitation and build up
adequate toilets in the city.

Water logging: One of the traditional problems of capital Dhaka, water

logging occurs after the slightest rainfall. It becomes impossible to explain
in case of relentless rain.
To solve the problem, it is necessary to increase the sewerage system and
maintain it properly.

The problems of Dhaka city are increasing day by day. These problems can
not be solved in a day. The firm intention of government and co-operation of
city people can gradually minimize these problems.
