Q1. What is embryo?

OBJECTIVES
• determine what is embryo and embryology;
• compare the stages of embryonic
development of different organisms;
• distinguish the sequence of amino acid in the
cytochrome c of the different vertebrates; and
• explain the two evidences of evolution which
are from Embryonic development and DNA
evidence;
Sources Of Evidence For
Evolution:
Evidence From Embryonic
Development And Evidence
From DNA.
Evidence From Embryonic
Development
• Embryo is the early stage of
development in organisms.

Q2. What is embryology?

• Embryology is the branch of biology
and medicine concerned with the study
of the embryos and their development.

Q3. Do you think that embryology is

important for supporting the
evolution? Why?
• Embryology is an important branch of
biological studies since understanding
the growth and development of a species
can shed light on how it evolved and
how various species are related
• It is considered to be a form of evidence
for evolution and a way to link various
species on the phylogenetic tree of life.
• During the first stage of
embryonic development it has
several homologous structures
that are not present when
organisms are adults.
• Embryos initially appear very
similar.
Like fish embryos and human embryos both have
gills slits. In fish, they develop into gill but in
humans, they turn into our jaw and inner ear.
Q4. So does the
embryonic
development can
tell us that there
is an existence of
evolution?
Answer:
Yes, because due to the fact that embryos in
the picture look virtually identical shows that
all organisms must have evolved from a
common ancestor.
Activity
• Explain the patterns in embryonic
development as evidence of evolution.
Evidence From DNA
Q5. What do you
think why the
scientist includes
the DNA as the
evidence for
evolution?
➢DNA evidence it involves the
comparison of DNA, proteins
such as cytochrome c and
chromosomes across different
species.
Q6. What is Cytochrome C?

Cytochrome C is a protein with a

sequence of amino acid that can
used to identify the similarities of
different species.
In this table shows amino acid differences
and the position which they vary.
Q8. How come that chimpanzee is
closely related to human?
It is because of
humans has 23
pairs of
chromosomes while
chimpanzee, gorilla
and orangutans has
24 chromosomes.
Q9. If two species have similar
patterns in their DNA or amino
acid sequence, there is a possibility
that they are from the common
ancestor?
SW: (5pts) Essay
• Explain the evidence of evolution
from amino acid sequence.
• Among Embryonic development and
DNA evidence, what do you think
has strong evidence to support the
evolution? Support your answer.
