1. How do gender, sex and sexuality differ from one another?
Sex refers to the biological difference between human/ animal. Its genitalia and hormones make them
different from one another. Just by looking at the personal physical appearance can easily indicate how
they differ from each other. One of the examples is when a mother gave birth to a child, once the baby is
born the doctor would check the baby's appearance and its genitalia to identify if it's a girl or a boy.
As for gender, it refers to the role of the male/ female in the community and society, how the individual
identifies him or herself. The behavior of a person is being influenced by what surrounds him. There is
diversity in how individuals and groups understand, experience, and express gender through the roles they
take on, the expectations placed on them, relations with others, and the complex ways that gender is
institutionalized in society.
2. What is SOGIE and how is it relevant to the Philippine society?
The Sogie is very important in our society, it stands for equality and acceptance of one's identity. Sogie is
a bill and was proposed by the Congress of the Philippines, it is intended to help those who have
experienced discrimination based on their gender identity. For some, they stand on what they believe in
an individual should act and behave base on their sexual identity. But, how can a person have freedom in
expressing himself if society wouldn't let them? If this kind of behavior will grow, more and more people
would suffer from depression and anxiety.
