3-1 Design an equal time forward and back four-bar mechanism to operate the windshield wiper of the rear
window of a sport utility vehicle (SUV). The dimensions are given in the figure. The range of motion
of the rocker (blade) is 105 o . The designed four-bar must fit within a compartment shown as a shaded
area.

Show that the designed four-bar is Grashof. Draw the designed system in several configurations in a box
as shown below (you may scale the size of the box for convenience). There is no need to show the
extension for the blades. Your drawing must clearly show the range of the motion of the rocker.

3-2 Repeat the design of the four-bar in Problem 3-1 for a time ration of 1:1.25. Consider the slow portion
to be for the wiper blade in its downward motion and fast upward.

3-3 Design a four-bar linkage to move the object through the three positions shown using points A and B
for attachment. Add a driver dyad to limit its motion to the range of positions designed, making it a six-
bar. All fixed pivots should be on the base. (Be creative!).
