AME 352 Online, HW-6

Apply the instant center (graphical) method to all three problems.

6-1 For an inverted slider-crank mechanism, where BC is an extension of link AP, we have the following
data:
AO2 = 4.0, AP = 20.0, a = 8.0, b = 4.0, AB = 4.8, BC = 8.8 (cm)
Link 2 rotates CCW with an angular velocity of 1.0 rad/sec.
a) Draw the mechanism for the crank angle θ 2 = 180 .
b) Locate all the instant centers.
c) Determine the angular velocity of link 4?
d) Determine the velocity of point P, show it on the diagram, and determine its magnitude.
e) Determine the velocity of point C, show it on the diagram, and determine its magnitude.

6-2 For the slider-crank mechanism shown, link (2) rotates with an angular velocity of 1.0 rad/sec CW.
Assume the following link lengths:
O2O4 = 3.0, O2 A = 1.0, O4 B = 1.0, BC = 5.0 cm
a) For a crank angle of θ 2 = 10o , draw the mechanism in the configuration closest to the one shown.
b) Locate all the instant centers.
c) Determine the angular velocity of link (3).
d) Determine the velocity of point C on link (4), show it on the diagram, and determine its magnitude.

6-3 For this six-bar mechanism, some of the instant centers have already been found (as a separate exercise,
make sure you know how to find these centers).

a) Construct a bookkeeping circle and mark all the found centers.

b) Locate the remaining instant centers.
c) Assuming that link (2) rotates with an angular velocity of 1.0 rad/sec, CCW, determine the angular
velocity of link (5). State which centers have been used!
d) Determine the velocity of the slider block (6). State which centers you have used!
