Group the learners into 5 and let each group think on how to solve the
following problems.

1. You own a fruit stand. To make your display more

attractive, you stack the apples in the shape of a
square pyramid with 10 layers. Starting the top
layer, there is only one apple, the second layer has
4 apples, and so on. Write a rule for the number of
apples in each layer.
2. The first row of the concert hall has 30 seats and
each row after the first has one more seat than the
Analysis
row before it. There are 40 rows of seats.
 Write the equation for the number of seats in the nth
row.
 One class of 50 students wants to seat in one row.
In what row will they seat?
 What is the capacity of the hall if there are 40 rows?
3. An auditorium has 20 rows of seats. There are 15
seats in front row, 16 seats in the second row, 7
seats in the third and so on, how many seats are
there on the 20th row? What is the total number of
seats in the auditorium?

Problems involving sequence are problems related to real

Abstraction life experiences and solvable using the concept of
sequences, in solving the given you need to follow the
Polya’s method in solving word problem.

Solve this problem.
1. The side of a square is 16 inches in length. A new square is formed by
Assessment connecting the midpoints of the sides of the original square and two of the
resulting triangles are shaded. If the process is repeated five more times,
determine the total area of the shaded region. (Illustrate the problem).

sequence.
