My Pandemic Journey

Since the beginning of this pandemic, I felt clueless and trapped at home , knowing that I would be
spending days, week and now months, stuck at home with my family. I always go, hangout with my
friend before the pandemic happens , I lived with my family but I always with my friends . Once
pandemic hit and we were told that we had to stay at home and not return to school , I was devastated.
Classes transitioned to online, and I wasn’t able to meet my friends because of community quarantine . I
enroll to the nearest college to continue my studies.

During the first couple of weeks, there were community lockdowns. There only people that were
allowed to leave home were essential workers and the parents that need to grocery. If you were pulled
over by police after curfew and know that you are not an essential worker, you were either squat in a
street or thrown in jail. Also, tissue, paper towels, cleaning supplies were out of stock certain food items,
like meat, were limited to one item per household. Times were hard. Everybody was scared. I had to find
things to do so that I wouldn’t be so focused on negative thoughts or fall into a deep depression. I
decided to focused on mobile games and think what I always wanted to go when the pandemic done. I
had nothing else to do, so I play with my friends online . I’ve always wanted to go outside but all my
friends is busy bonding with their families.

My parents are considered essential workers. So, during this tense time, I helped my family out by
watching my little brother and sister. Besides that, I’ve started to help my parents in cleaning and cook
for them. I really do believe that I’ve used my time wisely. Because not all students are returning to
university this fall, there should be a system to check up on all of them, especially those who had to go
back home. There are lots of students like me who still live with parents who have to take care of
families, go to school, and make ends meet. From my university, I would like to see them checking in
frequently on students by providing mental health and holistic supports, such as counseling or other
resources.

I would also love to see my university providing social-emotional support for students, especially during
a time such as this. Students are often dealing with a lot of things, and that support could go a long way
to help academic success, reduce emotional stress, and encourage a more positive mental state. I
believe the university could provide ways to make sure students are ok. As for me, I am still enrolled at
my current university to be closer to home. I want to go in other university but i decided to stay
because of the lock of financial support and continue what I always to do since the day one of this
pandemic, I need to be ok in this situation because its been years since this situation start. Since this
happens I realize that I need to be ok with it because I don't have any choice rather than to be ok.
