ABSTRACT

With the advancement of the technology, robots are getting more attention of researchers
because of its incredible reliability and for the time optimization capability with performance and
to make life of mankind comfortable and easy. This paper presents the design, development and
fabrication of prototype Automatic All in Floor Cleaning Machine (AAFCM) with disinfecting
and hand sanitizing. In this project, we have used Raspberry Pi and Motor driver to drive the
robot and Ultrasonic sensor for detecting objects in the path of robot

Chapter I

Introduction

Background of the Study

In recent years, robotic cleaners and sanitizers have taken major attention in robotics
research due to their effectiveness in assisting humans in disinfecting, sanitizing and floor
cleaning applications at homes, hotels, restaurants, offices, hospitals, workshops, warehouses,
and universities etc. Basically, robotic cleaners are distinguished on their cleaning and
disinfecting expertise like dry vacuum cleaning, floor mopping and non-autonomous disinfectant
spray (air and surface) etc. Some products are based on simple obstacle avoidance using
Ultrasonic sensor while some utilize laser mapping technique. Each cleaning and operating
mechanism of robotic floor cleaners and sanitizers has its own advantages and disadvantages.
For example, robots utilizing laser mapping are relatively faster, less time consuming and energy
efficient but costly, while obstacle avoidance based robots are relatively time consuming and less
energy efficient due to random cleaning but less costly.
Remote controlled robot for floor cleaning application reduces much time in lifestyle. It
performs sweeping and mopping tasks at a time, it also does obstacle detection, and also has
automatic water spray. Service robots are getting popular recently these robots operate semi- or
fully automated or remote controlled to perform services helpful within the well-being of
humans and equipment.
Our research titled “Automatic All in floor cleaning machine (AAFCM) with disinfecting
and hand sanitizing”. It can help to lessen the cleaning in our place because it can collect garbage
that is lightweight. It has also disinfecting and hand sanitizing.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

To maintain Cleanliness in offices, schools, or in daily household chores like Dusting,
Mopping and Disinfecting has to be repeated every day. But this physical activity of cleaning can
be harmful at times. To counter such problems there are several machines which are designed for
ease to humans, breaking down the complex tedious task into simpler one. But these mopping,
disinfecting and suction cleaners are complex, bulky and heavy making it tedious to move and
clean. Some Disinfectant and Sanitizer often contribute poor indoor air quality and may contain
chemicals that cause cancer, reproductive disorders, respiratory ailments, eye and skin irritation,

and other human health effects. Vacuum cleaners available in market consume hundreds to
thousand watts of electricity which in turn increases the electricity bill. The operating electric
motor becomes too hot and burnout the vacuum cleaner motor. While in physical activity of
dusting certain particles which when inhaled cause problems in respiratory system of that person
which in turn lead to more health issues. Several machines available in market employ specific
mechanical and electrical systems to ensure a clean household. Some vacuum cleaners don’t
offer a reusable dustbin bags. These machines make life and cleaning task more difficult
because one has to be physically present for mobility of machine. To reduce such efforts for
cleaning our project aims to create a device that is low cost, utilizing local resources to design
which serves the purpose of disinfecting and dusting from a place which is far away from dusty
environment, using DC motors, Android Application, Bluetooth, Ultrasonic and IR sensors and
remote controlled device instead of manual labor.
STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS
If we used the Automatic All in floor cleaning machine (AAFCM) with disinfecting and
hand sanitizing thru remote control via bluetooth, the place can be cleaned easily.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Cleaning is always part of our daily life, it can be time consuming that brings stress to us.
This research project will help us to ease our mind and body in cleaning our place. Just by using
our cellular phone, we can control the Automatic All in floor cleaning machine to make our
place dust free and it can disinfect the whole place after the cleaning and you can sanitize your
hand after using it.

Chapter II
THE REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Floor cleaning robot may be a trending concept in these recent days. By reviewing
different paperwork and techniques of used several cleaning robots of used several cleaning
robots, we’ve started acting on our design of floor cleaning robot which is predicted on
Raspberry Pi model. The papers surveyed for literature review are as follows:
Ajith Thomas et. Al, [1] proposed an autonomous robotic for floor cleaning program. It’s
able to perform sucking and cleaning, detection of obstacles, and water spraying. Furthermore,
it’s also able to add manual method. All hardware and software functions are manipulated by
Raspberry Pi 3 model.
Vaibhavi Rewartkar and Sachin T. Badge [2] provided a comprehensive overview of the
technological advantages helped within the real world for the convenience of just about all of
the people that are extremely busy. Consequently, this has led to arriving up with a goal of
constructing an automatic home appliance. The review includes computerized cleaner having
components to DC motor operated wheels, the dustbin, cleansing brush, mop cleansing and
obstruction avoiding sensor. A 12V battery is employed for supplying power. Special technique
of Ultraviolet germicidal cleaning technology. This study has been done keeping in mind
econimical expense of product.
Manya Jain et. al, [3] discussed the event of Automatic Floor Cleaner. The project is
often used for domestic and professional purpose to scrub the surface automatically and
manually. When it’s turned on, it gulps within the dust particles by moving everywhere the
surface (floor or other area) because it moves over it. The driving force control mechanism are
often won’t to drive the motors where robot having the ability to manoeuvre and also few
sensors are accustomed detect and avoid the obstacles, this can be often useful in making the
approach to life better for human kind.
Karthick. T et. al, [4] is intended to create up an autonomous automatic robot which will
move itself without constant human instruction. The autonomous cleaner robot involves low
power consuming electric components and it can operate at very low power. Electric parts are
the controller board Atmega 2560, Ultrasonic detectors, transformer IC and motor driver
circuit. Mechanized part is motor unit with gearbox founded. Ultrasonic detectors will identify
obstructions in line with the program being executed. A 12V, 4.5Ah rechargeable lead acid
electrical device is that the energy source for this proposed cleaning automatic robot.
S Monika, K Aruna Manjusha et. al, [5] This research paper presents that floor cleaning is
worn out a neater way and efficiently by robot utilizing wireless system. This proposed robot
saves the time and economy of the labour, within the previous research papers like household
appliance and automatic floor cleaner robot had some drawbacks like colliding with objects

before of it and this vacuum couldn’t reach to small areas and left those areas unclean and
therefore, the automatic floor cleaner robots collects the dirt but the downside up here is that
it doesn’t clean the wet floor. Few of the drawbacks during this project paper are overcome.
