THE ORIGIN OF SEI JODOH

One upon a time, hinterland of Batam island, there was a village inhabited by an orphan girl
named Mah Bongsu. She became a housekeeper of an employer named Mak Piah. Mak Piah
has a daughter named Siti Mayang. One day, Mah Bongsu washed her master's clothes in a
river.

Mah Bongsu : "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Snake...!" shouted a terrified Mah Bongsu when she saw a
snake approaching. It turned out that the snake was not ferocious, she swam here and there
while showing a wound on his back. Mah Bongsu ventured to retrieve the sick snake and
bring it home.

Mah Bongsu took care of the snake until it healed. The snake's body became healthy and
grew larger. The outer skin peels off little by little. Mah Bongsu picked up the chipped
snake's skin, then burned it. Magic... every Mah Bongsu burns snake skin, a huge smoke
rises. If the smoke is heading towards Singapore, then suddenly there is a pile of gold
diamonds and money. If the smoke is heading towards Japan, there are various tools of daily
necessities made in Japan. And if the smoke leads to the city of Bandar Lampung, come
streaks of lampung tapis clothes. Within two, three months, Mah Bongsu became rich far
beyond mak piah her master. Mah Bongsu's wealth makes people wonder. "Surely Mah
Bongsu maintains genie," said Mak Piah. Mr. Buntal also underlined his wife's statement.
"Not keeping genie! But she stole my treasure! Many people become curious and try to
investigate the origin of Mah Bongsu's treasure. To investigate the origin of Mah Bongsu's
treasure was not easy. Some curious villagers have been investigating for days but can't find
the secret.

again. "Hmm, then I'll also look for a snake that big," mak piah said. Mak Piah walks into the
forest looking for a snake. Soon, she got a rattlesnake. "From this rattlesnake will surely
bring more treasure than Mah Bongsu got," thought Mak Piah. The snake was then taken
home. At night the rattlesnake was put to sleep with Siti Mayang. "I'm scared! Snakes
wrapped around me and bit me!" shouted a terrified Siti Mayang. "My dear, don't be afraid.
Hang on, the snake will bring treasure," said Mak Piah. Meanwhile, Mah Bongsu's snake
wounds have healed. Mah Bongsu loves his snake more and more. When Mah Bongsu served
food and drink to her snake, she was suddenly surprised. "Don't be surprised. Tonight take
me to the river, where we used to meet," said the snake, who turned out to be good at
speaking like a human. Mah Bongsu drove the snake into the river. Arriving at the river, the
snake expressed its heart. "Mah Bongsu, I want to return the favor that is in accordance with
what you have given me," said the snake. "I want to propose to you and be my wife," he
continued. Mah Bongsu is getting surprised, she can't answer a word. In fact she became
confused. The serpent immediately took off his skin and instantly transformed into a
handsome and mighty young man. The skin of the milky snake was transformed into a
magnificent building located in the front yard of mah bongsu hut. Furthermore, the place is
given name village "Tiban" the origin of the word ketiban (an unexpected windfall), which
means the fall of luck or happiness. Finally, Mah Bongsu held a wedding with a handsome
young man. The party was held three days and three nights. A wide variety of entertainment
is featured. Guests who come endlessly congratulate Mah Bongsu. Behind Mah Bongsu's
happiness, Mak Piah's greedy family is being abused by grief, because Siti Mayang, her
daughter died pegged to a rattlesnake. It is said that mah bongsu's river meeting with a magic
snake that transformed into a handsome young man is believed to be a match. So the river is
called "Sei Jodoh".
