Bandung Bondowoso got frustrated because he failed to complete the

thousandth temple.
“The princess has deceived me!” Following his anger, he cursed Roro
Jonggrang, “You have cheated me. Now, the thousandth temple is you!”
Suddenly she got an idea. She woke up all the women in the palace and
ordered them to make the noisy sounds of grinding rice so that the roosters
would think it had already dawn.
One day, a handsome young man with super natural power, named
Bandung Bondowoso, defeated and killed Prabu Baka. On seeing Princess
Roro Jonggrang’s beauty, Bandung Bondowoso fell in love and wanted to
marry her.
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful Javanese princess whose name
was Roro Jonggrang. Roro Jonggrang whose beauty was very famous in
the land was the daughter of Prabu Baka, an evil king.
At once, the princess turned into a statue. Knowing this, Bandung
Bondowoso regretted this and he went away into a far land. From then,
people called the temple as Prambanan Temple and the princess statue,
Roro Jonggrang.
Meanwhile, Princess Roro Jonggrang felt sad due to the death of her
father. She did not want to marry Bandung because he had killed her
father. But she was also afraid of Bandung. So to refuse politely, she made
a condition, “I will marry you but you have to build one thousand temples
in one night as a wedding gift,” requested Roro Jonggrang. Bandung
agreed with this condition.
Helped by the spirits of demons, Bandung Bondowoso started building
the temples. Approaching midnight, the work was nearly done. Roro
Jonggrang knew and thought, “What shall I do? Bandung is smarter than
me. I will lose against him.
The poor monkey tried its best to find shelter, but in vain. The leaves were
not enough to save it from the rain. “Brrr! It is very cold!” said the monkey.
Many birds brought twigs and leaves and others wove their nests. “We
should also store food for our children,” chirped one of the birds. Then,
they collected food, until they had enough to see them through the rainy
season. They kept themselves busy preparing for tough times.
“How dare you tell me what to do?” said the monkey, growling at the bird.
The monkey angrily shook the branch where the bird’s nest was so
strongly which made the nest fall to the ground. The bird and her chicks
were helpless.
Soon the rain fell. It was followed by thunder and lighting. All the animals
and birds stayed in their homes.
The birds were watching all this. They felt sorry for the monkey, but there
was little they could do for it. One of them said, “Brother! Our nests are
not big enough to give you shelter.”
On a mango tree in a jungle, there lived many birds. They were happy in
their small nests. Before the onset of the rainy season, all the animals of
the jungle repaired their homes. The birds also made their homes more
secure.
The poor bird thought, “Fools never value good advice. It is better not
advise them.”
After the death of Kebo Iwa, Bali was conquered by Majapahit. Until now,
people still remember Kebo Iwa because he had done a lot for Majapahit
and Bali. The stone head of legendary Kebo Iwa can be found in Pura
Gaduh temple in Blahbatuh, Gianyar.
The villagers then worked together to cook and build a big house for Kebo
Iwa. He was like a giant. He could not stay with his parents anymore
because of his enormous body. Sadly, after a few months, the villagers
also could not afford to cook him the food. They then asked Kebo Iwa to
cook his own food. The villagers just prepared the raw materials. Kebo
Iwa agreed and as an expression of his gratitude to the villagers, he built
a dam, dug wells, and he also protected the villagers from wild animals
and people who wanted to attack their village. He did those things by
himself.
The baby was extraordinary. He was very different from most babies. He
ate and drank a lot. He ate more and more each day. His body was getting
bigger and bigger. And by the tie he was a teenager, his body was a big as
a buffalo. People then started to call him Kebo Iwa. His eating habit made
Kebo Iwa’s parents spend a lot of money to buy his food in large amount.
They finally went bankrupt. They gave up and asked the villagers to help
them provide the food.
One day in Bali, there were a man and his wife were praying. They have
been married for a long time but did not have any children. They asked
God to give them a child. They prayed and prayed. God finally answered
their pray. The wife then got pregnant and gave a birth to a baby boy. They
were very grateful and happy.
Meanwhile, the troops of Majapahit were planning to attack Bali. They
knew about Kebo Iwa. And they also knew that they could not conquer
Bali with Kebo Iwa there. Kebo Iwa was too powerful for them.
Gajah Mada the Maha Patih (Chief Minister) of Majapahit then planned
something. They were pretending to invite Kebo Iwa to Majapahit to help
them dig some wells. They said that Majapahit was suffering from a long
dry season and needed much water. Kebo Iwa did not know the plan, so
he went to Majapahit without any suspicion. When Kebo Iwa was busy
digging a very big well, the troops covered the well with many large
boulders. Kebo Iwa had difficulty in breathing and buried alive. He died
inside the well.
The old woman said that her sons were Tigers people. If they found a
human at home, they would kill him. But, the old woman felt sorry for
him. Then she allowed the man to stay at the house. She warned the man
not to make any noise while her sons were at home. The old woman gave
the man some meal. She also put the bundle of cloth from the main a small
room and ask him to hid himself on the rooftop.
This man thanked the old woman then he walked away as fast he could.
He did not stop until he arrived on the main road and know that he was
safe. When he looked at the found that they were worth a thousand times
more than the cloth the Tigers people had bought. He returned home as a
wealthy man. How happy he was.
Once upon a time, there was a man selling clothes from a village to other
village. As day passed, he couldn’t sell any clothes. He was very desperate
as he wandered and got lost in a forest, it started to be dark in that forest.
Then this man saw a big house.
The next morning, after the Tigers people went to the forest the old woman
woke up the man. She told him to go as fast as he could before Tigers
people came from the forest. She gave him the pieces of gold. The old
woman showed him the nearest way to the village.
When the Tigers came home, those Tigers said they smelled a human
inside the house. The old woman said that there was no human in the
house. She told that half an hour ago, there was a man sold cloth and he
left his cloth and sarongs behind and went back to sleep in the forest. She
said that the man would pick it back tomorrow. The woman showed a
bundle of cloth.
Those Tigers people were interested in the fabric and sarongs. They
wanted to have one. Every one of them chose a sarong and a headscarf.
Those Tigers paid for those things with big pieces of gold since they did
not have money at all.
When he knocked the door, and old woman opened the door and asked
what he wanted. The man asked if the old woman allowed him to stay in
her house. He would just stay for one night because the forest was full of
tigers. He was afraid if those tigers would eat him.
Putri Kemuning then went to see the king at his palace. ”What is your
name and what is your purpose here?” said the king. “My name is Putri
Kemuning. I want to return your ring,” said Putri Kemuning. “Thank you
very much. Now I want to give you something. What do you want?”
“I don’t want anything. I just want to go home. My mother is very ill,”
replied Putri Kemuning. “You are very kind girl. Now, take this gift,” said
the king.
In the jungle, Putri Kemuning had animal friends. One day, Putri
Kemuning’s mother was very ill. Putri Kemuning was very sad because
she did not have enough money to buy medicine. She then collected many
woods and plans to sell them. She wanted to spend the money to buy
medicine.
Putri Kemuning went home. When she arrived, Putri Kemuning told her
mother about the king’s ring. Her mother was very proud of her. When
they opened the gift, they saw a bag full of gold coins. They were very
happy because they could buy medicine.
Putri Kemuning and her mother lived in a jungle. They were poor. Putri
Kemuning helped her mother collect woods in the jungle and sell them to
the market.
While she was collecting the woods, Putri Kemuning met her animal
friend, the rabbit. He was worried because Putri Kemuning looked very
sad. Putri Kemuning told the problem to the rabbit. “I can help you. Take
this ring and then sell it,” says the rabbit. “Is this your ring?” asked Putri
Kemuning. “No, this is the King Ngarancang Kencono’s ring. It fell when
he was hunting here.” Putri Kemuning hesitated. She really needed the
money but it was not her ring. Finally, she said, “No, I have to return this
ring to the King.”
