Pro Tips to Give a Presentation
Have you ever feel afraid to give a presentation? Either you are afraid of not
being fluent or feel very nervous when speaking in public, or even because you are
afraid to be the center of attention. Likewise, if you are an introverted person, you
will automatically think that you can’t give a presentation in public, right?
But you know what? Actually, those worries can be eliminated, and you can
train yourself to be able to give presentations in front of the audience smoothly
without a hitch. How? Check these presentation tips below!
RULES 10–20–30
This rule may sound new to you, but actually, you often hear this rule. It’s just
that you hear it with other phrases. These rules are important for you to know before
making a presentation deck or slideshow.
● Rule 10
Don’t make a presentation with more than 10 slides. Too many slides make
your explanation more complicated. Try to shorten it and make it simpler, so your
audiences won’t get bored easily.
● Rule 20
An effective presentation lasts for 20 minutes. Any more than that, it is
possible that the audience’s attention will be distracted or they will begin to lose their
focus.
● Rule 30
When you make the presentation deck, use a font size of 30 or more. This will
make it easier for your audience to read your slides. And don’t forget to use contrast
colors between the text and the background, so it can be clearly read.
You need to follow these rules so that you can grab the attention of your
audience and so that they stay focused on you when you are presenting. Also, add
visuals that grab the audience’s attention. It can also be funny visuals to break the
atmosphere so that the audience can relax a little, but still fit the context of your
presentation.
RELAX
Relax is the key. During a presentation, some people will usually feel the
tension, and the way to relieve that is to calm down. Try the deep breathing exercise
before you start the presentation. Inhale deeply through your nose, then slowly
exhale through your mouth. Do this repeatedly until your heart slowly starts beating
normally.
When you feel relax, you will easily control your mind. Especially when there is
something unexpected during the presentation such as a technical problem, you can
control your audience to wait patiently and you can easily find the solution.
