Abstract

Teachers and staffs have a common problem of tons of paper works occupying their workspace,
resulting to unorganized and displeasing view. Keeping data or records in piles of papers can be
a problem for anyone. Focusing on attendance paper works/record, it is easy to misplace these
records in your workspace and this is being taken advantage by inactive students. We do not
want this happening with our beloved teachers and staff. Absentees on schools are smart enough
to fake attendance especially on a written attendance. Today, records are not only stored in
drawers or tables now. We now have technologies that can keep any data without having the
need of lots of paper. We will use that technology to further help our teachers and staff managing
their attendance for their students.

Chapter 1: Introduction

Teachers and staffs are commonly greeted by paper works at their workplace. Keeping a

lot of paper with records can result to misplacing some of it. Losing that certain record can be a

problem. Students that are often absent take advantages in this situation, especially when taking

attendance while the teacher is not around. We, as a student, have seen this kind of wrong

doings. It is unfair for students, teachers and staffs who are always present on the school’s

schedules.

Attendance is very important record to keep in schools. It shows how active and inactive

the students are on keeping a good record on their attendances. Unfortunately, many students still

cheats their attendance to cut classes instead of attending the class. So to keep the class

attendance in check, it is important for the teacher too to further assess his/her students.

In this manner, we the researchers therefore proposed our concept mobile app Student

Attendance Check list (SAC). This app will be operated in both platform; Android and IOS.

HTML is used in the mentioned app and will use Microsoft Access as the database for its

records. Student Attendance Check list (SAC) app will be shown as a concept using a certain

website that allows smart phone interaction using a computer/laptop. It will not yet be an actual

app that is used using an actual smart phone.

1.
Purpose and Description

We as a student and researchers have seen different cleverness that the student can make

inside or outside the school. As we progress on the ladder in, this kind of wrong doings are still

done, from junior high to senior high, and even until college. As we grew older, we realized the

unfairness of this attitude of these students. It is really unfair for teachers and staffs that are

trying to assess the student’s attendance accurately and for students who aim for a perfect

attendance.

A desire to help teachers and school staffs on getting and keeping and checking their

student’s attendances motivated us to have this project. The purpose of this project is to help the

teachers and staff on keeping their students attendance at check, thus removing the use of paper

for attendances of students. We, the researchers have seen how students cheat on their

attendances whenever they want to cut classes or putting their names on the attendance sheet

when the teachers or staffs are not around. Using today’s technology, this can be avoided,

making it beneficial for teachers and staffs. We will also look at the perspective of teachers and

their thoughts about the project we came up with.

2.

Objective of the project

The objective of the project is making an application that will help the teacher and the

staffs to easily keep and check the attendance of students who are present. The application will

be the way to prevent absentees cheating their attendance so the teacher and staff can accurately

assess the student’s attendance every day. We will also study the perspective of teachers and

school staffs about this project by giving questionnaires to further support the use of the

application.

Significance of the project

This project will be made to make efficient taking of student’s attendances.

Benefiting the project are the various sectors below:

The Teachers

The project will be beneficial to the teachers and staffs that take attendances of present

students in a class. Teachers can further give accurate assessment on his/her student’s

attendance, whether the student is active or inactive on attending school classes. This replaces

the use of paper for recording attendances, thus removing added paperwork.

3.
The Staffs

While teachers are away, staffs are usually the one taking the task of collecting attendances

by students writing their names and signature. Students can no longer help their absent friends

with this app and they are will be caught easily if they try to. Staffs can now accurately check on

who is present on that specific class.

The Students

This is beneficial to students and to those who tries to cheat their attendances. This will help

them exercise their consistent attendances. This will also encourage active students that aim to

perfect their attendances because absentees can no longer cheat the list.

Scope and Limitation

This project aims to help the teacher and staffs in taking attendances of the student. The project

only focuses on helping the teacher and staffs and the application will only be used exclusively

by them. Survey Questionnaires will only be given to people who are teachers or a school staffs.

4.
As we do this project, we are aware of the limitations we had. We lacked the knowledge on

coding an actual working app using a smart phone, thus making the application a concept only.

Due to pandemic restrictions, physical meet up of the researchers were lessen making the

progress of the project longer as expected.
