for high flow rates typical of stimula-
tion treatments and is partially pres-
sure-balanced when used with the
corresponding CT string size. Its large
bore reduces wear often observed
when large volumes of abrasives are
pumped through downhole tools.
The large bore CoilFRAC discon-
nect tool is held together with shear
screws. To disconnect, the lower por-
tion of the tool string must be fixed.
Upward strain is then applied, shear-
ing the screws and allowing the upper
half of the tool to be separated from
the lower half.
The shear release value is varied as
a result of the number and material of
installed screws. Selection of
CoilFRAC disconnect size should be
dependent upon the CT string size
being used, so the force from the
downhole pressure differential, which
acts on the differential area, can be
minimized.
The CoilFRAC disconnect tool can
be latched alternatively with a
CoilTOOLS Mark II mechanical
release retrieval tool or a Mark II-A
hydraulic release retrieval tool.
