LIVING UNIT

The living unit composes with the

'L' shapes. That L shapes' forms
changes in accordance with the Code:
privacy hierarchy of the spaces. 'L' shape forms are used in the
transition areas. Their area is
considered to dwindle
accordingly with privacy.

Code:

LIVING COMPLEX
Different volumes are
provided with the usage of
various heights and various
orientation of the units in the
composition.
The Interaction in the common areas

Vertical and Horizantal units combine with each

other throughout their common areas for
providing an interaction. Edges of the complex
are considered to provide passages in the urban
ensemble.

URBAN ENSEMBLE
Restrictive Boundaries: Edges

The main flow leads people, the main entrances are

not on a continuous line; it is fractured to ensure that
people experience the public area. Minor entries
provide the secondary flow, it gives a chance for
people to experience other paths and lateral spaces.
The main common area is provided with protrusion
boundaries of the complexes that also highlight the
Code:
privacy between areas. Edgy
integrations (physical
continuity) located to
create passage under
the edges
of the bounding sides.

GENERATION OF THE COLLECTIVE FORM
The process from living unit to urban quarter

While generating unit to

complex, creating more
volumes was a concern
so that unit located in
various orientation.
While composing ensemble from
complex the extension of the
complexes used to create minor
common areas. While generating ensemble to
quarter,,the directive form of the
sensemble considered.

COMPOSITION
QUARTER FOR
PHILOSOPHERS
"Ideas emerge not in detached monads in people's head, but between
people, in conversation."

When philosophers spatial necessities are considered, the

main approach in the quarter design is providing them
spaces for thinking. This consideration is maintain throught
two spatial organization. They need communal places to
emerge their ideas with the philosophical talks, debates. On
the other hand they still needs personal contemplation.
Therefore; other than the main public area (where they can
all come together) the secondary common areas are not
located in the center of the ensemble blocks. Philosophers
can meet in these areas an have discussions. Moreover, they
need spaces to examine others, so that they can think about
the quesitons about the everyday life.

Holistic Network Between Common Areas: Public
Engagement

One of the main intentions in the design

is providing a continous public
engagement between the minor
common areas. They are located
balanced to ensure its integrity. Within
this flow of common areas, spaces
occured in accordance with the
hierarchy of them. Secondary common
areas located at the outermost place of
the quarter, top side of the flow.

CODE 2
Spatial Differentiation in Terms of the Topography: The
Examined Life

Considering the natural topography of the area,

remarked part is differenciate a bit more from the
other parts of the quarter. The location of the
ensembles are all located horizontal to ensure a
suitable emplacement with the natural topography.
It provides a continous access to the main public
area and it is located at the top of the quarter which
provides observable area. This is ensuring a space
for philiosophers to heard and listen to others where
they can think about the questions of the life.

CODE 3
Continous, Wide Acces to Secondary Common
Areas

The main flow is occured for overarching the

main public area. Considering the
accessability to the secondary common areas,
they are located to give a continous acces to
the each other and the main common area.
This approach differ the blue marked
(secondary) areas from other spaces in the
means of hyerarchy of accesability
and continuousness.

CODE 4
Pocket Areas for More Suitable İntegration

The Consideration of the harmonical

transition between th urban quarters
led the design to have pocket areas.
These pocket areas are located in the
enteries of the urban quarter where it is
connected with others. That area
ensures harmonical transition.

CODE 5
Facades of the ensembles

The entrences of the ensembles

that are near the main common
space do not located to have
access from the main public
area. This is for coordinating
experiencer to the main flow and
ensure the privacy hierarchy.
