PCOD AND HYPOTHYROIDISM

ITS MANAGEMENT THROUGH NATUROPATHY

AND YOGA: CASE REPORT

A 23-year-old female visited NIN OPD in the month of September 2021 pre-
diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in the past - 12 years ago with weight gain issues and she
was also suffering from PCOD in the last 12 years along with irregular menstrual cycle. Also,
she had dark pigmented spots over the entire body post fungal infection 4 years back and
mechanical low back pain for past 6 months.

A detailed case history was taken with the consent of patient. History revealed the
duration of irregular periods and weight gain issues have increased more during this year due
to changed and irregular sedentary lifestyle along with stress. Her menstrual history involved
abrupt changes in the duration of her menstrual cycles with missed periods for up to 4-5
months at a stretch or short cycles of 5-10 days due to which at times she bled even thrice
during one month with 5-6 days regular bleeding associated with muscular cramps-
Dysmenorrhea. These abrupt changes occurred after patient stopped taking medications for
PCOD. Her Family History revealed about her mother having Thyroid disease. Her Medical
History involved intake of T. Eltroxin 125 mg OD. She was adviced to undergo for
naturopathy treatment, apart from her ongoing medications.

The patient’s appetite was good, consuming only vegetarian diet, Normal thirst was
seen with the intake of 2 litres of water per day. Late onset of sleep was seen, bowels were
regular, and micturition is of normal frequency. She had a habit of consuming 1 cup of milk
every day and no use of alcohol, tobacco use or any illicit substances.

She is moderately built with the BMI of 22 kg/m2, Blood pressure was 100/72
mm/Hg, Heart rate 88 bpm. On VAS Pain Scale her low back pain was 3 on the 1 st day. The
complete systemic examination was normal. She had [Front and back] mixed encumbrance
and her tongue was heavily coated white.

On iridiagnosis, good density of iris fibers was observed and no lesions were seen.

Patient was advised to undergo naturopathy treatment for one month and 1 week of
Yoga Therapy treatment in outpatient department starting from 20th of September 2021.
Treatment is still going on still 5 days left for the monthly package to end. Therapeutic
interventions like Yoga Therapy, Naturopathic Diet, Sunbath, hydrotherapy and Pranayama
was given every day on daily visits to OPD.

There was a significant improvement in the menstrual cycle of the patient. The patient’s cycle
is regularized without medications naturally. She is positive about her health now.

5 days treatment is still left for her at NIN OPD, patient is advised to continue the
yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation, sunbath and regular dietetic changes and lifestyle
changes. After the 3 and ½ weeks treatment patient is feeling positive changes in her health
with the normal cycles of 21-28 days. The patient expressed increased confidence and
happiness.

The effective changes observed by the patient may be attributed to the practice of
Naturopathy and Yoga Treatments.
